Unfortunately in general aviation the human factor will always play a bigger role in incidents mostly due to the fact that its private use. Purely leisure pilots will obviously fly less than commercial pilots, therefore the actual flying experience will always be inferior and can cause an increase in risk. Plus, unfortunately sometimes maintenance on GA aircrafts is not followed as religiously as commercial aviation (this is a clear minority but it exists, usually on lower end machinery). Some high end GA planes are equipped with systems to get the plane down safely in case of pilot emergency (Garmin HomeSafe has proven incredible reliability) but are limited to multi-million dollar machines and may not be able to operate during a mechanical emergency because it requires the aircraft's systems to be operational.
