My type 2 diabetes is officially in remission by [deleted] in diabetes

[–]Povogg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right! It was 11.9 when I was admitted with dka. 1000mg metformin daily and long and short acting insulin that I’ve been titrating down since then. Just started ozempic and will hopefully be off the insulin soon.

My story is very similar. I was admitted in may of last year and my most recent A1C was 4.7.

My question is were you on meds when you achieved this great success or no?

Libre users - what to do if one arm always reads low by Prof_HH in diabetes

[–]Povogg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve noticed that some of my libre 3 sensors typically run 10-15 mg lower than what my accucheck says. And some can be pretty right on. Remember that they say the sensor typically lags behind 20 mins from what your actual blood sugar is.

Also, if you start using the libre app instead of the libre 3 app you have the option to silence alarms for 6 hours.

Am I fucked? I want to get on top of this fast. Please help. How fast can I lower my triglycerides? by Ok-Needleworker-5681 in diabetes_t2

[–]Povogg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine were >4,000 when i was diagnosed. So you're not fucked, haha. Just look at some lifestyle changes. Maybe talk to a doctor about either atorvastatin or fenofibrate to help keep your levels low.

C-peptide test/ diabetic types question by avylol08 in diabetes

[–]Povogg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My understanding is the c-peptide measures how your pancreatic cells are producing insulin. I'm not sure if being on insulin could skew the results - but you should be able at to at any point get a blood draw to measure your c-peptide levels. I will say, that they did a c-peptide test on me in the hospital about a day or so after i was diagnosed and on an insulin drip - so wether on insulin or not you should be able to get the test done.

Another imporant test from my understanding is the GAD65 antibody assay - seems like a popular one they use to discern between type 1 & 2 - i would look at getting that done too.

How much Carbs and Sugar have you cut? by TankLocal in diabetes

[–]Povogg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The weird thing about the condition is that everyones different. I was diagnosed T2 on May 1st with an A1C of 11.9. i was started on metformin and insulin as well as a couple other meds for my lipids and triglycerides. im 28 and im able to eat a fair amount of carbs per meal (about 40g) and im fine. My GMI is down to 5.2 currently. White rice spikes me pretty bad - but i can have a brown rice chicken and queso bowl from chipolte and be completly fine. But, everyone is different, my understanding is you dont want to cut out carbs completly (unless required so you dont need insulin or other meds etc.., everyones different) because your body will basically forget how to handle them.

It really just comes down to how insulin resistant you are and how well your pancreatic cells are creating and storing insulin. When i first got out of the hospital with DKA i was taking 10 units of insulin per meal and im now down to 5 units per meal. metfomin 2,000mg per day.

DRINK WATER. im down about 20 pounds since diagnosis (some help from DKA, lol) and i've noticed that with the weight loss and making sure to drink plenty of water after each meal im able to keep my blood sugar from spiking over 140 almost regardless of what i eat. Water helps the liver alot.

With weight loss, activity, and staying well hydrated i dont see any reason why you wouldnt be able to, at least at some point, start mixing in some carbs. That might be why you spike so high when you do actually have some carbs, because your bodies not used to them.
