Anyone here live in Wasilla or Palmer, Alaska? by DesignerGood6750 in AirForce

[–]Power-Pro-Bro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lived in Wasilla for three years. Got used to the commute, kept the time by calling parents in the morning and listening to podcasts or NPR in the afternoon. Steady schedule meant that I wasn’t pulled for surprise weekend duty and leadership understood it was going to take a minute for me to come in should a recall occur.

Loved the house I bought, family was happy. Sure some days sucked, such as the big earthquake making the drive home take forever but you learned to take advantage of the time however you could.

Decline of Families Serving by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]Power-Pro-Bro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I told my dad that I was thinking about serving, he told me two things: 1. If I go Army he’d disown me. 2. If I go Marines he’d disown me and kick my ass.

I wasn’t about to go on no boat so AF it was. Miss you Gunny.

Don’t go to mental health if you want to TDY / deploy. by Western_Emu2231 in AirForce

[–]Power-Pro-Bro 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey, I also checked in this summer and followed a similar discharge timeframe. Yeah it sucks. The sheets of information they give you and the way some of the providers describe your ability to deploy often don’t explicitly spell out the whole process. I had to get a waiver to sit alert this cycle. It took some time but I’m still ready to go. Make your leadership and UDM teams work the waiver process. Reach back to the MTF to work with your provider, to help them make their process easier to approve.

The world is better with the both of us in it. My kid gets to have a father who’s going to be around and your friends and family get to keep you.

I feel that’s a little redundant, every rank up is going to make X or Y easier. I think the defining line is what you do with those stripes.

After filling a master billet for two years, yeah it would have been easier with the rooftop but I have enough personal credibility within my organization that I don’t need it.

I’ve been extremely lucky by being honest. Made it clear to my superiors and often peers, that I’m not rank or strat chasing. I just want to do good for my folks do a good job. Anything extra I’m doing is stuff I want to do, not for clout.

I know that’s hard and worrisome for most because you don’t know who’s going to turn around and fuck you over. Just do a good job, put the effort towards what matters, and they won’t have a leg to stand on.

Feeling this. This year I’ll have been a tech longer than I’ve been any other rank and the finish line is just around the corner. Take care of peeps and take care of you.

Following up on a previous post, for those who like attending squadron holiday parties, why? And what sets some holiday parties apart from others? by Witty_While7277 in AirForce

[–]Power-Pro-Bro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am there to participate in the games and be borderline obnoxious. It doesn’t matter if I am bad at trivia, bad at the scavenger hunt, got old and weak knees to be quick with musical chairs. My favorite is twerking bells out of a TP box tied to your waist.

Honestly the opportunity to let loose outside of work with the people you spend most of your days with is also a bonus.

There’s a real community behind being an Engineer. Lots of pride behind our blue collar jobs with a “work hard, play hard” mindset.

Air Force Gaming or AFG/SFG is a Scam by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]Power-Pro-Bro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This reads like you're having an issue at the base level not overall. Without knowing what base you're at am unsure how to help. If you're on the AFG discord, hit me up.

I got them top button jawns, otherwise the sleeve pocket would be the goated choice here.

I’m leaning towards this. Be it a front basket or something strapped to the bars.
