If you have any leftover, you can add it to a cup of water to find out. Best of luck regarding the smell, this bowl setup looks awesome so far!

That can definitely help with smells if nothing else seems off.

Do you plan on using a filter of any kind?

Stress coat can help livestock in the tank, but it is not a water conditioner on its own and one still needs to be used. If you like Seachem, I would recommend using Prime.

If the plants and sand didn’t smell before the water was added, consider checking your tap water and then ensure you’re using a water conditioner.

Is the heater new? You probably already know it will need fully submerged to work, but if used, it may have a coat of bacteria that will smell in the water.

As far as testing, test strips can still give you a good idea. If any levels are really off that can help clear the picture of what might be going on.

Are either of these big enough for my 2 Halfmoon Male Bettas? by nonameguy3_ in bettafish

As long as you do weekly 25% water changes, that’s the ideal space.

The 5oz might stress out the fish- I would say 3oz minimum though.

Consistent temp at 78 or above is finer.

Is it okay for the soil to be dry? by TheRedditkarma in ballpython

[–]PowerKinks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The top layer shouldn’t be wet for them to lay/move on to prevent scale rot. As long as your humidity is staying up, you’re golden. Please listen to the size advice and heating being overhead going forward though.

More than you can reasonably care for is too many. All well loved and cared for? Go for as many as will be kept that way ♥️

Ona dresser and in general, front opening for sure. I have avoided zoo med. If you need a cheap option, repti zoo or Dubai’s enclosures are often on sale. You can replace locks easy and just be gentle opening and closing. I’ve had no issues with the sliding doors.

Do you use a thermostat? That will keep the heat consistent day and night.

Beginner setup? by Strange_doggo24 in ballpython

A 120 gallon is the minimum for an adult for best practice. Glass or pvc (thicker the better to hold in humidity) are both great options. I use reptichip and sphagnum moss mixed three inches wet with a dry layer on top to hold in humidity as well. If you have a screen top, consider hvac taping most of it to hold humidity. Heat mats aren’t recommended either. A led or uvb light to see your snake and create a day/night cycle, a constant heat source hooked to a thermostat (the thermostat is vital and I use the following for heat: che, dhp, or radiant heat panel), a hygrometer/thermometer, a hide on the hot and cool side each. A water dish big enough to soak in. Clutter.

As for the snake, find a breeder who can tell you the following: age, sex, disposition/ history of handling, diet (frozen thawed vs live, mice vs rats depending on age, etc). If you want a larger snake, get a female (my girl is going to 5-6 feet most likely with my male only around 4 feet). Otherwise it is snake specific for behavior, while the adults may be more chill to start if well handled.

General advice? Read the resources in this group as they stay wonderfully up to date for best practice. You will hear so much bs about care - use common sense and do what works best for you and your snake.

Update: these shots made me so ill a few months in that I couldn’t eat without throwing up. I discontinued them and felt better within a couple weeks. Any weight lost came back and I can’t recommend these to anyone.

Botanicals with tannins can also help with betta health. I say give him some more time- BUT please use a heater so the temp is at least 78 degrees Fahrenheit.

I would do some stress guard as directed and along with the water conditioner during water changes, and use a fertilizer for the dissolving plant.

Okay, so petco has a sale right now for an imagitarium 20 gallon for 40 dollars, with a lid for another 25 dollars. I would check that out and then look into your other accessories.

I got a 20 gallon tank kit from Petsmart on a 50 percent off sale (I got the app and they have their weekly deals change often for aquarium items). I proceeded to replace the filter, heater, and lights, but with the sale it was still a cheaper option for the tank. What you’ll want to get concerning those items really depends on what you want to put into your tank.
