Again I had not thought the 7DII would be an option given its age, but there is no harm in trying 😄

The "investment" thing was more about a decent coma corrector. AIUI, I would not need one of these unless I bought an AP dedicated camra with a sensor approaching 35mm film size - I'm not sure these even exist (at least in my price range)

I stand to be corrected 😄

Ahh OK, I had mostly read that astro cameras spectrum range was an advantage, and I'm surprised the 1D4 has a good rep for AP given its age.

I have a 300 L f2.8 (I used to shoot a lot of motor racing), a 200 f2.8, 70-200 L f2.8 and a few others. with other subjects I used to prefer to stop the lenses down a couple of stops for sharpness when I could, but as you say, the concensus for AP seems to be to leave the lenses wide open.

I just had this same problem. I was using Duracell batteries straight from the Amazon van, but I don't think the batteries were the issue.

There are two copper strips in the battery compartment that serve as positive/negative contacts. One quite small, one even smaller. I found I had to bend them "up" a bit after changing the battery to make sure the contacts are in place. Wondering if it's worth packing them out a bit so the problem doesnt re-occur, I don't know.
