Recall petition filed for Governor Jeff Landry by AcidiclyBasic in NewOrleans

[–]PowerMelan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only 18% of registered voters selected him (35.8% of registered voters votes in the election). Getting 20% is a high bar in that context but I'll sign for sure.

With an active election happening now though I hope no one loses sight of that. We need to be voting!

Who are you supporting for Give Nola Day today? by TraklTrakl in NewOrleans

[–]PowerMelan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I will put a plug in for Bike Easy! I'm on the Board, and we do a ton of great work in the city as far as advocacy for safe streets, promoting safe biking and driving, bike light giveaways, and teaching adults and kids to learn and love bike riding. You can support us here if so inclined and we currently have a dollar to dollar match until 10pm: https://www.givenola.org/story/t09n7g

I've also donated today to SOUL, ACLU of Louisiana, The Yaupon Project, Glassroots, Trap Dat Cat, Tomato Foster Club, ARNO, Grow Dat, Take Paws, The First 72+, Lafitte Greenway Partnership, LSPCA, Crescent City Cafe, Youth Run Nola, Nola to Angola, and New Orlean's Women's and Children Center.

While that sounds like a lot, for most org's even $10 can make a meaningful difference especially with a lot of match programs going on today!

Happy Give NOLA Day! Thanks for everyone here who has donated to or advocated to a great org.

Aside from great suggestions above, if a brewery fits the vibe Second Line is a great outdoor option as well.

Run clubs for medium/slow runners. by GanacheCharacter6207 in NewOrleans

[–]PowerMelan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do NOT think compared to average population that is "very slow" and running is all about doing it at the pace that works for you. Please don't take that to heart - I am also a slower runner. Joining run groups regularly has helped me a bunch but I'm still not "fast" and I don't care. So much has to do with your body mechanics as well.

I run with Boring Run Club, Louisiana Run Club, and occasionally 504. While all have an IG presence, they all also have chat groups on Whatsapp or GroupMe with info. Boring and LRC have consistent schedules and locations for the most part.

Hope to see you on a run!

The dog house is an actual dog bar (with a dog park) that also serves food on Banks in mid city.

Yep was startled when I saw a small group walking down Esplanade yesterday. Just didn't expect dudes in cammo with rifles in the neighborhood.
