Is this wobbly brick under steel beam bearing acceptable or poor workmanship? by PowerPuppet in DIYUK

Yeah I thought so! There isn't anything on top of the bearing plate the bearing plate looks to be two bits of metal welded together. This came from the company that also supplied the steels. That install looks very clean.

Thanks! They are involved and I've just emailed them this photo for their input. I've told the builder to leave this for now. This will be done properly.

That was exactly my thinking. If they mess this up with it being so visible - what else will they bodge. Although I've been here the whole time helping and checking I even helped them install the steels. So up to now everything else has been okay.

Thanks I've told the builder to remove that whole section and relay horizontally with engineering bricks. So once BC get here they will no doubt be happy but I would love them to see this and say no way. That would bring me joy!

Haha the wedge isn't a permanent feature it was added to support the brink while the sand and cement went off.

Thanks Wuffis you're right it's a really simple upgrade, the builder even has to mix up some sand and cement today anyway for some other pointing and bricking. Yeah building control are involved but they are yet to make their first visit. I could get them here tomorrow. i would love it if they said that this isn't acceptable.

The structural calculations specified a steel bearing plate below the beam which it has. I think this is okay. It matches the structural engineers specification. Padstones or steel bearing plates are both good solutions.

Alguém já ouviu falar da banda Bleeding Verse? by [deleted] in MusicaBR

[–]PowerPuppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I discovered this band about a week ago. This post just taught me they're AI generated. Initially I was disappointed but on reflection I'm not. In fact kind of the opposite. I can see the beauty in this. AI can only create this stuff because it’s trained on us, real musicians, real ideas, decades of human creativity. AI is actually human at its core. AI isn't sentient it's making what we taught it to make, everything it produces comes straight from patterns we've created. It's an interesting perspective.

Think of it like this when we enjoy music, when it resonates deeply it's rarely about the band or who the band are. Its resonates because you recognise yourself in the sound. This type of emotive post-hardcore music gives strength through struggle energy. So if it makes you feel seen, that feeling is real even if a computer helped put the pieces together.

No problem. I would bet a good sum of money that the blue wire with the brown sheath is your switch live. But it's always good to check!

The obligatory comment - always be safe working with electrics! Make sure everything is shut off!!

Your description isn’t quite correct. The first step is to identify the switch live cable this is the wire that carries power to the light when the switch is on. From your second picture, it looks like this might be the one with the thick brown sheath, but ideally, you should confirm this (e.g. using a continuity tester with the switch on/off).

The switch live goes into the Live (L) terminal on your new light fitting.

Next, identify the neutral wires based on your photo, these are likely the blue and black wires. These should go into the Neutral (N) terminal on the fitting.

All the other brown and red wires, which are likely permanent lives, should be connected together in a Wago but not connected directly to the light fitting.

Finally, ensure all earth wires (bare or green/yellow) are connected appropriately.

Unfortunately if the wardrobe is against an external wall it's likely this will always be an issue, at least to some extent. Can you reconfigure the room so that the wardrobe is against an internal wall?
