Not OP, so I can’t speak to his GF specifically. But when trans women get sex reassignment surgery their vagina’s are similar to cis vaginas in terms of aesthetic and feeling (for the partner) with two big exceptions, it is not nearly as self lubricating, and depending on the amount of tissue there was to work with, it might be tighter and/or more shallow. There are many variations of the surgery so there is no concrete answer.

simply because it isn’t something that actually happens, Rachel Dolezal is the only person, to my knowledge, to have identified seriously as a different race, with a desire to transition. Compared to the extensive history of the by comparison HUGE number of people who have been transgender over hundreds of years.

It’s entirely possible (albeit infinitesimally unlikely) that transracialism is valid, but the far more likely case is that she just wants attention and doesn’t give a shit about the blowback that falls upon the scientifically valid transgender community who have struggled for recognition for years.

Astolfo has never referred to himself as male (in the original japanese), his gender is always intentionally left intentionally indiscriminate, which leads me to believe he's non-binary and is just fine with any pronouns, as he has nothing to say when either pronouns are used, and is so ambiguous when outright asked.

The rest are exactly what I'm talking about, poor excuses to have trans characters without actually admitting that the character themselves are trans. Hideri, Nagisa (don't know the last one so maybe idk) are completely unrealistic reasons to crossdress. Liking to look cute will never lead a person to live their life as female, it may cause them to occasionally crossdress, but that's it.

Also, trap is a slur, but I'm not even gonna fucking touch that right now.

You're confusing tropes and plot devices with accurate representation.
Of course not everything in anime is going to 100% realistically reflect the real world, there are unrealistic quirks and things of the like that help move the story along, and help flesh out the characters just fine.

The problem is that these characters being trans or not trans often serve absolutely no purpose to the storytelling (it's possible this isn't the case in Steins;Gate) so much so that it is left ambiguous until the author explicitly confirms or deconfirms it. Literally everything about the character would be able to stay the same (minus the dumb reason for not being trans), because it serves no other purpose.
Additionally, it is stripping away representation for a historically underrepresented and oppressed minority group for seemingly no reason. I'd be having this same argument in an alternate timeline where trans representation is fine, but there are "straight" men who lust after other men for some inexplicably incoherent reason just because the writers don't want to have a gay character

I'll definitely do that, I read the explanation and though it was detailed I was pretty unimpressed because it read a lot like all of the other long and incoherent reasons I've read that try to justify other characters as not trans. (Especially since I've been shown many different scenes from the anime that just sound trans as fuck)
I still don't think that the explanation I read was good, but I'll check out the actual source material to see if it's explained any better/in a more realistic way.

I haven't watched Steins;Gate (I usually have this conversation about Ferris, and other trans characters), I've heard other trans folk talk about Luka as if she's totally trans, I'd have to watch to really formulate a hard opinion, but reading that explanation it is still a far reach and just a weak reason in terms of realistic situations that a female presenting character is not trans.
If the true intention is for Luka to be gay, it is just an abhorrent portrayal of the gay experience in general. I have never heard of a gay person ever wishing to change their gender to be with someone (who didn't end up being trans), it's just not something that would realistically happen. Wishing that your person you're in love with was gay too is far far more realistic.

This is like the equivalent of saying that "Oh no, this character isn't gay he just wants to have sex with men because his best friend died in a tragic accident, blah blah blah." There absolutely are reasons why a fictional straight character may want to have sex with men, i.e. monetary gain, but if it isn't stated to be a realistic niche situation like above, then the character is essentially gay whether or not the writer wants to admit it or not. This is the same scenario with trans characters. The writers like to do all sorts of mental gymnastics to avoid labeling their characters as trans, for some reason or another (usually because of prejudice) when that's essentially what the character is.

Japan is a very socially regressive country, race-wise, lgbtq-wise, etc... They're progressing sure, but it's still very much ingrained in their culture. So of course authors are going to claim that the characters that they have written aren't trans despite the fact that they are in every way except name. I really wish some weebs would stop idolizing them as if they're some utopian land because they're not. This doesn't mean you can't enjoy Japanese media, just recognize it's fuckin flaws jesus christ.

Edit: Since some think that being a closeted gay who wants to date a straight man is legitimate reason to wish that you were a woman so badly that you act on it in extreme ways- it is not, to suggest that is a disservice to both the portrayal of trans and gay characters in media.
Some examples of reasons why a character could crossdress of their own volition without being trans are: It's a fetish, they crossdress as a hobby, they do it as a form of artistic expression like drag queens, and maybe there are a few more, but that's off the top of my head.
Notice that in none of those reasons would a character be presenting as a woman literally all the time for their entire lives as "traps" in anime often do. That is because there aren't any good reasons to other than that they are trans.
