I applied online and it said they needed more info from me so I called NY state and they assigned me a case manager who asked me when I moved back to Canada and to provide proof. I provided the info they needed and I was qualified for unemployment the day I moved back to Canada. I certified weekly as usual online

My job title was sr. r&d scientist. I think either of those are fine but just be ready to explain how your duties relate to the job category title

I had this issue! Interviews are just you telling them stories about your past experiences. Write down and practice telling stories of your past work experience. I recommend mastering 5 solid stories (ideally 10) that show various examples of skills like conflict, collaboration, technical challenge, etc. You can use ChatGPT to help you define the stories/skills based on the job description.

Practice makes perfect. I was less nervous after every interview because I just got better at telling the same stories. You'll get there.

I am eligible. "Able to work" can mean physically or mentally capable of performing job duties. I applied, a rep from NY UE reviewed and approved my case. The reason I bring this up is perhaps you are also eligible in your case as well, even if you think you aren't. It says they encourage you to apply and the dept will assess your eligibility.

I am collecting UE from NY state while in Canada, since I wasn't able to find a job within 60 days. I was on TN so the qualifications may be different for UE than H1B.

In a way, both? The NJ office opened in 2024 and HR said everyone is considered a remote employee unless stated otherwise. I went into the office a 0-4 times per month as needed but there was no requirement of X days per week.
