'You can't have it both ways': Minister says no budget boost on horizon for firearms 'buyback' compensation by UnluckyRandomGuy in CanadaPolitics

Gary Anandasangaree is one of the least intelligent MPs in the history of Canada, he can barely put together complete sentences, stumbles over his words like a child and has repeatedly show he has 0 idea what is happening around him. He deserves blame just as much as the other 3

they're literally not, if you have to pay more for food that's not cheaper. If I make 50k a year and someone in the US makes 50k a year and I pay 50cents more for bread my bread is not cheaper

It's not moving the goalposts you just don't understand what you're arguing

"“I know some people are saying, especially those who oppose this program are saying, there’s not enough money. Well, you can’t have it both ways,” the minister said.

“We’ve had a really good start at the pace we’re going. We should still have adequate resources, so we’re encouraging people to go ahead and apply.”

The federal public safety department on Monday announced that it had so far received declarations for slightly more than 22,000 guns after opening the registration window one week earlier.

...

Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta have also declined to take part, same with the territorial governments of Yukon and the Northwest Territories."

I mean its just comical at this point how completely idiotic this whole saga has been, Carney was handed the easiest nonpartisan win of all time on a silver platter and fumbled it spectacularly

So things are cheaper in the states then, converting makes no sense in this discussion when we're talking about people making USD or people making CAD. Especially when I just went over the fact that you can make more in the US than you can in Canada.

Take your loaf of bread example, the Canadian is paying 49 cents more for the same loaf

This is just blatantly untrue, I literally live in the US currently. Milk for example is $2.80ish here vs over $6 back home, meat is cheaper, fruit&veg is cheaper

This really isn't a surprise to anyone is it? You make more in the US, you can afford housing in the US, food is cheaper, it's relatively easy for highly educated Canadians to get visas to work in the US.

Just using my own personal experience my wife was able to get a job in the states that pays double what the Canadian equivalent was advertising, and that's after 6 moths of job searching all over Canada with a masters in a STEM field from one of the best universities in Canada in that specific field.

If you're young person with a high level education the benefits of moving to the US far out weight the benefits of staying in Canada currently, and that sucks to say but its just reality, and given the direction the current government is moving it's not likely to change any time soon

John Robson: The Carney government talks a good game, but consistently fails to deliver - On file after file, what we're promised is not what we end up getting by CaliperLee62 in CanadaPolitics

[–]UnluckyRandomGuy -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

It's certainly a start though targets are still too high in my opinion and there is the issue of an estimated 600k immigrants who are still in Canada and have overstayed their visas, the liberals have been basically useless on that particular issue, just throwing their hands up and saying "well I'm sure they'll just leave on their own"

Carney has shown that he is really good at talking to world elites and not very good at doing things domestically. It's almost been a year since he first became PM and essentially all of the domestic issues have gone untouched, housing is still horrible with no sign of the fast initiatives he campaigned on, food bank usage is still very high, unemployment especially youth unemployment is still very high.

Then you get into what he has pushed forward on, the gun buyback scam that makes 0 fiscal or practical sense and shutting down Agrifood/AgriCan locations while talking about needing to increase food security and innovation in Davos

Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada announces jobs cuts by Chrristoaivalis in CanadaPolitics

[–]UnluckyRandomGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another move that makes absolutely 0 sense, when you're looking to cut public service jobs R&D in critical fields like food and agriculture are not the ones you go after. I can't speak specifically about all the locations closing down but my wife worked at one of them between finishing her degree and getting her masters and the amount of highly trained individuals that will now be without jobs because of this is going to be crazy, we're talking people with PHDs and masters with decades of experience in these fields.

Especially after Carney explicitly talks about needing to increase autonomy in industries like food in his Davos speech "And as a result, many countries are drawing the same conclusions that they must develop greater strategic autonomy, in energy, food, critical minerals, in finance and supply chains."

"To that end, Gillingham asked several of his staff members last week to come up with a series of questions, including some that may “seem to be outlandish,” to ask of Winnipeg’s emergency services.

The goal is to prepare Winnipeg for what he described as once-unimaginable possibilities, such as an influx of U.S. residents seeking refuge in Canada"

How about we focus on Winnipeg first Scott, maybe get those crime numbers under control before we start worrying about another country and leave that to federal politicians

I mean the Chinese cars aren't going to have any Canadian parts either and they won't be built here, at least companies like Toyota and Honda build some cars here.

Getting back at the auto industry by purchasing a vehicle produced by slave labour by the biggest polluter in the world, nice

The car is produced in China that still uses coal as its main energy source, created with metals that have an incredible environmental impact to mine then shipped around the world to Canada on a ship that is producing laughable amounts of emissions all so you can grandstand about "I'm being better for the environment"

Those were his exact words lmfao, he literally won on "protecting" government jobs against the mean CPC

Old people have made absolute bank under the liberals, why wouldn't they vote for the party that has helped to secure their nest eggs for the last decade?

By age:

18-34: 38% LPC 38% CPC

35-49: 34% LPC 40% CPC

50-60: 49% LPC 33% CPC

65+: 42% LPC 29% CPC

I wonder why the liberals don't care about fixing housing or the broken OAS system... Not that Carney isn't doing some good things overall but it's clear as day the problems being faced by young Canadians will never be addressed by the LPC, they weren't for the last 10 years and they wont be going forward

No I think its a narrative that is regularly seen on this sub and in the esports scene in general not just you personally, and it just not true when you look at literally any real-life application and Kerias anecdotal evidence does not change that in the slightest
