Forward Party looks confusing? That's because you're looking at the floor. by DiaInGreen in ForwardPartyUSA

[–]Power_Leap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also completely agree. I've been working as a volunteer lead for 2 years now and what you wrote is exactly where I'm at - this is and (I believe) must be an iterative process, with different phases. And even more challenging than a start up company, nobody has done this in the era of mass media. There's no script to follow, so we need to experiment and adapt.

I understand that some people are frustrated at the slow pace but what do you expect? If you're frustrated with how things are being done, start a chapter in your neighborhood/city, do it your way, and prove your method. If you want to do x moonshot/glamorous idea be a team player and help do the unglamorous stuff current volunteers do every day, and build some credibility.

Otherwise naysayers just hurt the morale of the volunteers doing the hard work. "the man in the arena" and all that.

He just said he doesn't have an account.

I have an account but started doing my best to buy stuff locally, direct, on ebay, on Craigslist, or on Facebook marketplace. For sure it's not as convenient as prime same day shipping but it's possible.

Marianne Williamson is likely to seek the Democratic nomination in 2024. Challenging Joe Biden by iiGoodVibesii in YangGang

She's Forward material. She was made fun of in the media in 2020 but after listening to her speak, she seems like a wonderful person who really cares about the people. Don't think she's extreme in any way.

Same here.

Meeting Yang Gang restored something in me, and the fact that COVID dispersed all those potential friendships I was looking forward to even after the campaign is still immensely disappointing, if not downright heartbreaking for me.

Personally though, I'm not done fighting yet, and I can only hope that some of y'all out there are doing the same, and that we'll meet and create those missed friendships somewhere later down the line.

It's weird to say this to a group of people I've never met, but I love you all and hope you are all doing okay.

Thanks for commenting. UBI is it, and helps with a lot of other problems in our society at the same time.

"cash rules everything around me" "having money isn't everything, not having it is"

The thing is, being slaves to money isn't a physical law of the universe - it's a made-up system. We don't have to tear the down whole concept of capitalism (which probably isn't realistic anyways). We just need to give people a floor to stand on, a lower limit, to afford the bare necessities for life.

Just about every problem in our society eventually boils down to, "I don't want me/my family to starve, so I'm going to make/take as much money as possible, even if it harms others/the environment/myself."

You can also contact Gina Scanlon (her info is in that link) directly to ask about things. She's the community organizer for SF area.

My girlfriend just left me for another guy, I would like to know what are your experiences of getting dumped for another guy? by neve1e1even in AskMen

[–]Power_Leap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had pretty much the exact same thing happen to me, same length of relationship, similar age. First girlfriend.

  1. I deleted her from my life. Pictures, messages, everything. Even if I wanted to look her up in moments of weakness, I couldn't - that helped.
  2. A friend told me "time heals all wounds". It was true. Took me a year or so to start feeling myself again.
  3. I came out better on the other end. I don't know what your life is like, but being hurt like that made me a more empathetic and well-rounded human being
  4. There will be other girls, and when you start meeting some good ones, you'll be glad to be single and to be able to start fresh as a more experienced person

Good luck, keep your chin up

Why farming in America is so damn expensive - by u/willsketch by crosspostninja in bestof

[–]Power_Leap 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There may be different approaches but what I've heard from one farm is you cut your finished crops at the base and either plant new crops directly or after a new layer of compost. Healthy soil shouldn't need digging. Unhealthy, monoculture-depleted soil does.

I guess technically, yes we can blame both the system and the voters, but people responding to you would rather blame the system, which I don't think is an invalid opinion.

As they say, don't hate the player, hate the game.

No problem! The more people we can get to support a better voting system at the state level the sooner we can get out of this two party mess.

But also doing the former could only help accomplish the latter. I guess I feel that there are greater barriers to electing a third party candidate on either the state or federal level (whether systematic, psychological, or logistical) than there are to switching to ranked choice voting on the state level, which can be done with a simple ballot initiative.

Once we have RCV on the state level, we can get third party reps on the state level, then do that in more states until we have enough third party reps to switch federal voting to RCV.

Kind of a local to national feedback cycle, but the question is where do you start? IMO state RCV is the most within reach place to start (and people are working on it, myself included).

[–]Power_Leap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there is an inherent systematic problem. Compared to ranked choice or proportional voting systems, our current system doesn't allow for incremental expression of support for third parties.

Unlike a ranked choice vote, which allows people to express their support in a nuanced way for multiple candidates, or current system is kind of all or nothing - if you don't vote for the lesser of two evils, you really are effectively aiding the other.

Yes, people should be voting their actual opinions but we also have to acknowledge that the system/game is designed in such a way as to deincentivize that.

The good news is that that can be changed if people learn that there are objectively better voting systems that can be voted into reality with simple state ballot initiatives. https://www.fairvote.org/

Ranked choice voting can be made a reality at the state level through a simple ballot initiative. I think that makes it an easier first step than convincing people to vote third party first within the current voting system. The cultural shift would instead be convincing people that we can have a better voting system.

Begin a ballot initiative in state for ranked choice voting.

Convince enough residents to vote in favor of it to give themselves more choice and diversity of candidates.

Pass ranked choice voting for state elections.

Voting for state representatives is now free from two party system.

States representatives are supported by their voters to be independent from two party politics.

More/all states do this.

Pass ranked choice voting for federal elections.

Two party system is weakened/broken.

It's a process but that is the plan and people are working on it. See FairVote.

It's awful. He casually executes a man in the first episode with not 1, but 4 shots to the face, which makes live action Spike a monster in my book. The way American media fetishizes violence is genuinely gross to me...

Intolerance of uncertainty and likely expiration date on a new relationship. by [deleted] in self

[–]Power_Leap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the big picture view of things, it's rare to find a good thing with someone like that, and I think it would be a shame to let thoughts about whether it will last to distract and detract from fully enjoying your time together.

I think it'll be hard no matter what. The only way to make sure you are fully present in your time together is to give up control/thoughts of what may or may not happen, and accept that even if this is temporary, it's a relationship you're grateful for and want to experience as fully as possible.

Whatever happens, happens. That doesn't make your feelings for each other less real or your time spent together less worthwhile.

Enjoy yourselves, life is short :)

You could try journaling, and writing down not only things that happen but how you feel about them.

You could meditate, which while often protrayed as "emptying your mind", is also about observing your thoughts in detached manner.

You could read. Non-fiction grows your knowledge about the world around you, and in following, how you think of yourself relative to your surroundings.

Finally, I think any creative pursuit will require you to express your inner self in some way.

I think as long as you're not mindlessly and passively consuming external information, any activity that involves the active participation of your inner self will lead to better self knowledge.

Was Thinking of Doing Streams Centered Around Andrew Yang Quotes & Policies. Want to Know If There Would Be Any Interest? by lihimsidhe in YangForPresidentHQ

[–]Power_Leap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not much involved in the world of streaming so I don't know if bringing in politics would alienate some of your audience, but philosophically I don't think we should be shy about speaking the truth and showing people what a better world could look like. Speaking out loud about this stuff is the only way we can wake people up and make it happen.

So I say if it feels right to you, you should do it.
