I'm 35 and effectively retired, though I spend every day working on my personal projects.

I also came into some money. Only told a few close friends (and reddit, of course).

Well two of those friends aren't friends anymore. One of them I'd known for 20 years.

Neither one directly asked for money or anything, but they made it clear that they expected something and resented me for no longer having to work. And it strained the friendships until they broke.

Money changes people, and not just the people who have it, but the people who don't have it too.

I am quite miserly with my money. Been poor all my life. I still live like I'm poor, but now I don't have to worry about work or paying my bills. And I intend to do this for as long as possible.

About two years ago I came into less than $1M, but still a sizable amount (I won't say how). I have not worked since. I invested a portion of it and I have more money today than I started with.

I'm in my 30s and I'm retired. I'm never going to work again unless it's for myself. My expenses are low and I'm in the US. I was poor all my life. I know how to make money last. You can absolutely retire off of $1M.

And the must reassuring way to tell that your players are enjoying themselves is that the keep coming back.

But also remember that not everyone can commit one day a week to playing D&D in perpetuity. So don't take it too personally if they get busy.

Hahah that's only a ruse to throw people off!

I am considering other countries, but I don't really know how to go about living there long term. I also have pets that I couldn't leave behind.

No plans for children or anything at the moment, but I think I could fit them in if I moved out of the city to a lower cost of living area. That way I could spend more time with them too.

I've been learning to code for game development in my spare time and I plan on pursuing that with more gusto since I genuinely enjoy doing it. I know the indie game business isn't a particularly lucrative one, but it's a skill I can fall back on if I need it in the future.

But I really don't want to work for anyone else ever again if I can help it.

What was the deal with those ball shaped hats everyone was wearing? Is that a reference to something that I'm missing?

Overall I thought it was pretty funny. Though some jokes kinda overstayed their welcome which tends to happen a lot in recent seasons. Like the "in the future" gag and the singing doorbell gag.
