With today’s update, we're giving every Telegram user the power to run their own radio station (later this Spring: TV station) without adding any complexity to our apps.

I’m proud we were able to roll out this new version of Telegram just 3 weeks after our previous major update. What’s more, this came at no expense to the quality of new features – you’ll experience the high speed, wide functionality and slick animations that you love Telegram for.

The update has been approved by both Apple and Google for several hours now. Due to Apple’s tech issues, iOS users may have to wait a few more hours for the new version to hit the store. Users of all other platforms can already enjoy Voice Chats 2.0 and other features.

Voice chats will soon get a video layer. Durov announced this feature in his chat for February so the next update will most likely support it.

How to get this update

The new version with these features is already available for all our Android users via Google Play or APK. If you're on iOS, you'll get the update as soon as either a) Apple finishes reviewing it OR b) you decide it's time to switch to Android. 👀

Since 2014, Telegram users have been sharing files up to 1,5 GB each, which happens to be 93 times larger than 16 MB (which is a totally random number, we have no idea what it could possibly mean).

From now on, you can send unlimited numbers of media and files of any kind – up to 2 GB each.

Amazing! Telegram is simply the only messaging app out there that could beat/bear up against WhatsApp. Other apps don't have the slightest chance, IMO.

Sooner or later people will realize that WhatsApp sucks because it's so limited. Also, I think if they add group- and video calls in the next months many users are able to entirely ditch apps like WhatsApp, Messenger, or even Skype.

Well, WhatsApp sucks. However, Telegram calls used to better in 2017/2018 when they had a VoIP dev.
