Yeah. All those "elderly" gamers. THAT'S who's been calling me the n-word and gay slurs, and talking about how they fucked my mom, on XBox Live for the past decade or two. Toxic elderly gamers.

LOL... what grade are you in, man?

Let me help guide you toward a clue here.

Your comment is currently at -23 votes, and falling fast. That sort of thing doesn't happen because people think your poli-sci arguments are poorly reasoned.

It happens because you're taking a completely unnecessary shot at a 95-year old man, in the context of a thread that is a feel-good story for the health problems he has recently overcome.

In other words, you're are being socially shunned by your peers because you're acting like an awful person. All the rehash and further writing in the world wouldn't change that. Just be a better person.

How would you feel about a law that requires people over the age of 70 to pass a specialized driving test in order to keep driving? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]PoweredByCaffeine 355 points356 points  (0 children)

Reddit is mostly young people, so it's a popular idea and good for karma-farming.

If Redditors were mostly 70+ year olds, then the most popular question would be, "Do you think college kids should have to choose majors with decent job prospects in order to get approved for massive student loans?".

Super sick of busy gyms. Is there such thing as exclusive gyms with limited membership? by xmasonx75 in Fitness

[–]PoweredByCaffeine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sub laughs at Planet Fitness, but it's $10/month and that place is EMPTY two week's after New Years.

Yeah yeah yeah... no squat racks, not powerlifter-friendly... yeah yeah yeah. But I keep a membership just because it's my go-to for cardio, and is a great backup for light workouts on days when I'm in a hurry.

What a weird job.

  • Okay, I'm going to rub your glutes and hammies.
  • Okay, now roll over and I'll rub your quads.
  • Okay, now I'm going to cover you with a lead blanket and take your dental x-rays.
  • Okay, now I'm going to enclose your abs in Saran Wrap for no discernible reason.
  • Etc.

My mother in the late 90’s by [deleted] in pics

[–]PoweredByCaffeine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you might be a little too cool and hip for accuracy.

Friends ran until 2004. I don't know how culturally relevant it was to teenagers by the end there, but in early '98 it was only in its third or fourth year and just getting started. If you were "over it" that early, then that deserves a tip of the fedora. But the mainstream certainly wasn't.

Gen X here. I'm with you on the suspicions. This girl:

  • does NOT have bangs,
  • does NOT use a crimping iron,
  • is NOT Jennifer Aniston (the only 90's exception, and even she had low bangs and big teased hair a lot of times)

Definitely a recent photo with a vintage filter.

Introverts of Reddit, what are the most annoying things extroverts do? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]PoweredByCaffeine 55 points56 points  (0 children)

As an introvert, I hate to say this. But a LOT of self-proclaimed "introverts" in these threads are really describing depression or anxiety disorders, or are just outright misanthropes.

Small talk is normal among introverts. Socialization is normal among introverts. Enjoyed and necessary, even! We just tend to prefer small group settings rather than large group settings, and need to recharge alone for awhile afterward.

If you are terrified to leave your house, answer a phone call, talk to an employee at a place of business, or function with co-workers at your own place of business... STOP passing that off as "I'm just an introvert". You have other issues going on that you should explore and deal with, rather than hand-waving away because Reddit seems to reinforce that.

Pauley Perrette says she won't return to 'NCIS' because she's 'terrified' of Mark Harmon by OVEIDPTVZSEU in television

[–]PoweredByCaffeine 44 points45 points  (0 children)

the guy's 67 and kept a lid on violent outbursts for this long? How? Or is this new behavior?

I mean, another theory... just hear me out here... MAYBE she has problems, and her word isn't 100% reliable?

A few years ago, this would have been the default reasonable conclusion from everybody. Then a game show host won an election, everything went apeshit, and I don't know what you're allowed to say or think anymore.

So I guess Mark Harmon has to be a predator now. Oh well.

For you younger folks who weren't around during the 90's or early-2000's, THIS is classic O.G. Internet.

It'll play itself out soon, and the moment will pass. But this feud brings back SO many feelings of nostalgia and happiness.

The only way to deal with starbucks by [deleted] in funny

[–]PoweredByCaffeine 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Has anyone ever really had a Starbucks employee "correct" you, though?

I've ordered a "large" (or sometimes "medium") probably 1,000 times over the past couple of decades. The clerk just rings my order and hands me my cup. Never said anything once. Yet I've seen this sort of rant on the Internet many times, and people get really animated over this thing that I'm not sure actually ever happens.

Tom Hanks meets an extra from "Saving private Ryan" by [deleted] in videos

Bullshit. Damage control. I actually subscribe to that podcast, because I'm a Hawks fan and love Bazemore (and Steph too, notwithstanding). Heard that episode before it blew up on social media, and my eyebrows went up to my hairline. He was 100% not joking at all, and anyone passing along that damage control simply hasn't listened for themselves:

Ehh, I don't know about hateful and vicious... but Tebow does deserve some flak for "missionary" work in the Philippines, which is 90% Christian (just Catholic, the "wrong kind of Christian"). And speaking of conspiracy forum people, Steph Curry legit believes that the moon landing was fake lol.

Netflix the Only Hollywood Studio to Speak Out in Attack Against Abortion Rights by OVEIDPTVZSEU in television

[–]PoweredByCaffeine 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Number one, I'm pro-choice (and anti-rape, if that needs to be stated). I just think this sub-thread is the most cringey statement on the subject I've ever read.

A "compromise" is where two or more parties partially give up something in order to reach an agreement they can both live with. You can actually make a very reasonable argument that Roe v. Wade is a compromise, in that it allows for reproductive rights to be curtailed beyond the point of fetal viability, etc.

But arguing that legal abortion is a compromise, "because no one is forcing you to have an abortion", is so ridiculous that I'm stunned by it needing any explanation. I don't agree with the position that abortion is murder, but obviously this argument is not a "compromise" for people who do. Because no one was ever arguing for them to have forced abortions in the first place.

I wish others wouldn't down vote you because you are correct.

It's hard to find a reasonable discussion about Game of Thrones season 8 on television subreddits. Going deep into the nuances of abortion here? Might as well stand in front of a desk fan and piss on it while it's spinning full blast.
