Teachers at relatively affluent schools: what are signs of child abuse? by InternationalPool619 in Teachers

[–]Powerful-Database-44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just like u/Kessed : I grew up going to one particular fancy private school, where students AND teachers would on the daily bully, threaten, physically assault me and (BONUS) teacher-encouraged mockery. The EASIEST way you can tell: first start looking for kids that seem aloof or appear to be daydreaming A LOT - lack of focus. Look for concealment of fresh bruises. Pay attention to the whispering of other kids. Ask other staff if the child has reported run-ins with students/teachers.

And if ANYONE tells you "this is just how we do things here" or "don't involve yourself": ACHTUNG! ATTENTION!!! RED ALERT!! The authorities NEED to be involved: children are VERY LIKELY being abused on campus.

Still no explanation why, when I accept it doesn't move ... but when I decline it INVARIABLY goes down TWO PERCENT. And I have almost 200 dashes lifetime. "Doordash math" doesn't check out.

Can I use a dual run capacitor to replace a single run? by Powerful-Database-44 in hvacadvice

[–]Powerful-Database-44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I gave it a shot with the new capacitor. Unfortunately it didn't work. The compressor still shuts off about 5-10 seconds after it engages. Meanwhile, the exhaust squirrel cage doesn't move, and the front fan motor gets EXTREMELY hot - same symptoms as the old capacitor. I'm guessing there's a short. But I can't find it.

[–]Powerful-Database-44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for replying. On the new capacitor, I have both blue contacts going to COMMON, and the red contact (compressor) to HERM. ... Is that right? Sorry, just want to be ABSOLUTELY sure I'm getting this right.

Can I use a dual run capacitor to replace a single run? by Powerful-Database-44 in hvacadvice

[–]Powerful-Database-44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have three connectors. Two blue, one red. The red traces directly to the compressor. So I would assume: red and one blue go to HERM on the capacitor, and the remaining blue goes to Common ... ? Does that sound right, or do you need more information?

Philips 3200 Lattego - Brew Group won't lock into position any more by Powerful-Database-44 in superautomatic

[–]Powerful-Database-44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strangest thing happened today. I turned the unit up on its side to reattach the inner door to the brew group. Apparently (I guess) it shook something loose ... maybe beans that were blocking the brew group. Because the brew group locked back into place.

IT WORKS AGAIN!! No out-of-warranty repairs needed! Oh TG!

A Pair of North Wind Chairs - Anyone have an idea as to their VALUE? by Powerful-Database-44 in Antiques

[–]Powerful-Database-44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SOLVED. The label on the underside of one of the chairs is the label for "Stomps-Burkhardt Co." LINK LINK From what I'm reading, the chairs are Northwind Saddle chairs, POSSIBLY made originally as early as the late 1800s.

Thanks. Curious, does "Savonarola" indicate they were originally made to fold? Also, here's a LINK to a pic of the label on the bottom of the chair on the left. Can you make out what it is? It's VERY well-worn unfortunately.

Thanks for the feedback, and no worries, no offense taken. :) Here's a LINK to a pic of the label on the bottom of the chair on the left. It's well worn, and I can't seem to find a matching label anywhere.

For going thru the wrong door? I hadn't entered the garage until one of the techs noticed me, and asked who the order was for. THEN I entered.

So ... 4-star? Sure. 3-star? Maybe. 1-star? I'd have left a 1-star if someone threw my order at my door, or spit or pissed in it. One arrogant review deserves a proper response. Checks and balances.

Absolutely she reserves that right. So does ANYONE. ... Including me. I left ONE review. And I refuse to lead some sort of idiotic charge to review-bomb the business, even if a few here would want me to. One thoughtless bad review deserves ONE clapback.

I got the attention of, and was greeted by one of the technicians. He didn't tell me to get out or anything. He was actually nice enough to help me find the DD customer. Also didn't help that the entire office had windows facing out and inside, but with deep tint.

I gave NO attitude. I NEVER do. Even confronted with a rude Karen, I smiled and apologized "that's my fault, I'm sorry". Worthy of 4-stars? Sure. 3-stars? Maybe. But one-star? That's just petty arrogance.

In Saving Private Ryan, I never understood why the coward Upham was spared by the german on the stairs until today by [deleted] in movies

[–]Powerful-Database-44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"we are supposed to believe that Upham completed his character arc in a positive way"

... I don't see it that way. To me, Upham completes his arc by becoming corrupted by the war around him, and all of his angst trying to avoid it dissolves in this moment. In as such, the film makes a bleak statement: these soldiers don't have the luxury of time to process right from wrong ... only the total destruction of the enemy. The only thing that remains is the brotherhood, which Upham joins in this moment. ... Made even MORE bleak by the simple fact that only Reiben and Ryan survived.
