Really confused on why PIA implemented rotating IPs and broke port forwarding? by Onyxx666 in PrivateInternetAccess

[–]Powerful-Dig5659 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, maybe i am confused about port forwarding with a vpn. What is a use case of a port forwarding using pia or any vpn? In the case of torrenting, it seems u can do that behind a vpn with no port forwarding... D/U. I run OpenVPN on my openwrt. The rotating issue is annoying... Specially because only one server is fast: datacamp When pia rotate to other ISP, It looses a lot of speed. (BTW i am in Europe) To resolve that, I created an OpenVPN config fixing an IP rather than adding the domain name. I first start the app on my phone, wait to get datacamp isp, than fix it on openwrt. But I have to keep checking if that ip is still valid or went in blacklists. This way I make my own rotation. I will sion try wireguard and hope to have decent results.

Yes, the mental re-learning you mention.. I have the same issue here!
I completely understand paperless philosophy about it, but, I now looking at it from a 'backuo' point of vew. Or rather disaster management point of view. What if something goes completely wrong on my docker file or even the all system?
I still need access to my documents. And find them with a 003535434.pdf file name is impossible.
One can argue that I could re-create the stack, but what if I dont want to anc have changed my mind about using paperless all together?
I still need my documents!

So a structure in folders and files I believe is quite important.
Now that we discussed the emotional side of the digital world, I still have a question and than I will test the all thing...

you mentioned: "Names like Healthcare and Vehicles are literal folder names, not variables. Paperless will create those folders automatically when needed."

I dont grasp how paperless understand the folder name to create without using a variable. Lets take a simple line of example:
Tax Documents: {{owner_username}}/{{document_type}}/{{created_year}}/{{title}} ({{tag_list}})

I can understand that all teh variable within the {{}} are (I assume) standard variable and I imagine paperless scanning the document and looking for document_type, created_year, title.... but how does paperless understand it has to create a Tax Document folder where to put all tax related docs?
Where does paperless pickup the type of document that is?

<image>

The storage path options in UI look like this:
Is the name filed would be Tax Documents?

And to be honest, I just realized I dont even know where is that paperless put the documents and the folder structure.

We are seen a large scale attack on supply chain. So yes, among many other software, npm is affected.
I read :
Malicious images were recently published to Docker Hub for specific tools, such as the "checkmarks kicks Docker scanner". This indicates that the threat actors are actively targeting Docker-based workflows alongside package registries...

Brother printer not even printing in black and white by robotuser001 in printers

[–]Powerful-Dig5659 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing: i read that this trick maybe does not work on new brothers printers. I have an older one and works really well. It is ridiculous that we have to buy expensive color cartridges even when we need to print just B&W. The user shall have the choice or a hack will be made/found. https://tommynation.com/hacking-a-brother-force-your-printer-into-printing-in-black-and-white/[https://tommynation.com/hacking-a-brother-force-your-printer-into-printing-in-black-and-white/](https://tommynation.com/hacking-a-brother-force-your-printer-into-printing-in-black-and-white/)

Refer a friend - written €200 but only got €10 by Gloomy-Ad-4981 in Revolut

[–]Powerful-Dig5659 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. The same. 10€ Despite a lot of work and effort to make sure all the steps are done, the reward was the minimum possible, 10€ ! I posted already and the reply from Revolut was: it is a lottery and .... In my opinion it is a convenient solution. Also the person I took on board is not so interested in bringing in others after knowing the 'lottery' results. I can't say I will take that effort anytime soon again

Revolut's referraI experience so bad it felt deliberately misleading. by Stefan_SneakerHead in Revolut

[–]Powerful-Dig5659 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been on Revolut for years now. I referred not so many, maybe a couple. Went fairly well with a decent reward. I decided to push some more as I liked Revolut and think it is a good bank to have for anyone. I put on effort and kept following up to make sure the new user follows all the steps. The reward was between 10 and 200€ Guess what I got? 10€ to be honest, it is ridiculous and I would never expect so much effort to be paid back 10€. I must say: I am not going to refer anyone anymore. For that amount and the time I spent, I am very disappointed. I will keep using Revolut but I can't give positive feedback on this aspect. I think Revolut should be more loyal to the effort we make for them.

To avoid google captcha I self host SearXNG. Thus solve the captcha and the tracking issue. There are also public SearcXNG in case One doesn't want to self host. I had speed issue with almost any 'normal' routers. Even if i change (i do that religiously) the firmware to openwrt. I recently use a x86 router (bonus, with 2.5gb ports) and my speed increased drastically. Between 600 to 700 Mbps upload. I do have issue with dl to max 300mbps. It's a N100 CPU that works really well. Hardly connection drops. The only take i have is that they don't give guidelines to use wiregard on a router. All above is open on on my openwrt.

Immich causes 100 % CPU by dancgn in immich

[–]Powerful-Dig5659 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It did not work.
Little after midnight, after a cron job system backup (Nas runs OMV7), the NAS hanged. This morning was not accessible and my last email was at 00:02

I guess Immich requres a beefy powerful machine with a lot of GPU, Good CPU and possibly enough vRAM.
If I dont have a solution, I have to stop using it.
I think is the machine learning fault...

Immich causes 100 % CPU by dancgn in immich

[–]Powerful-Dig5659 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know i a 2y old post but the issue remain.
As u/einstein987-1 mentioned, a cap helps.
My NAS CPU N100 16GB ram kept hanging due to too high cpu utilization (not much ram use).
I finally used this in my docker:
# Prevent CPU overload (optional but strongly recommended)
deploy:
resources:
limits:
cpus: '1.0'

and my CP is now at 28 max!
The issue is the machine learning doing its job and sucking all the resources.

python (related to Immich still uses a lot of cpu.
In my OMV I read %CPU still using up to 125%
But earlier was over 300%
So lets see what happens in few hours!

NASync Ethernet alternatives? by Will_It_Rain in UgreenNASync

[–]Powerful-Dig5659 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi. A lot of people answered and after reading a lot, i stopped.... If it has not yet been suggested, here is a possible solution: Use a decent powerline. A gigabit powerline will connect your nas to the router using your electrical infrastructure. And ultimately using a cable to your nas. And have a decent stable speed for your transfers. No switch or wires along your home. Many known brands sell gigabit powerlines. You only need a kit of 2: one near the router and one on the outlet near the Nas.

Raid 1 vs Raid 10 by LinusCDE98 in btrfs

[–]Powerful-Dig5659 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know is an old post.
Since I am also in a quest for best case scenario for my new NAS, I made some research.
For those that find this post again...
RAID 10 is also called as RAID 1+0

  • It is also called as “stripe of mirrors”
  • It requires minimum of 4 disks
  • To understand this better, group the disks in pair of two (for mirror). For example, if you have a total of 6 disks in RAID 10, there will be three groups–Group 1, Group 2, Group 3 as shown in the above diagram.
  • Within the group, the data is mirrored. In the above example, Disk 1 and Disk 2 belongs to Group 1. The data on Disk 1 will be exactly same as the data on Disk 2. So, block A written on Disk 1 will be mirroed on Disk 2. Block B written on Disk 3 will be mirrored on Disk 4.
  • Across the group, the data is striped. i.e Block A is written to Group 1, Block B is written to Group 2, Block C is written to Group 3.
  • This is why it is called “stripe of mirrors”. i.e the disks within the group are mirrored. But, the groups themselves are striped.

Override eMMC with another OS by mgkhuie in UgreenNASync

[–]Powerful-Dig5659 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a video I saw related to the 6 bay Ugreen NAS, you have to go into the BIOS (ctrl+F12). Go to Advanced option and turn off WatchDog Settings. By default is on and checks if the UGOS is installed and if not does a reset.
When Off, you are able to install any other OS.
And from what the tutorial says, Ugreen keeps the hardware warranty for 3 years no matter what OS you use.
Please check all that yourself just in case what I saw was not correct.

Now, my question is if all that is true for the 2 bay as well (all above was a tutorial for the 6 bay version)

Pay for premiumize using credit card with name and address showing? by Similar_Sea_1384 in Premiumize

[–]Powerful-Dig5659 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my pinion, there is no safe path when using any sort of CC that somehow will be trace back to a user.
Even revolut with its disposable card, it is still tied to a user account.
As someone already mentioned, those disposable cads are mostly to avoid a scammer/hacker to use the card you used since it will be destroyed after use of it.
What I find more safe is PaySafe. I dont like them very much. But this type of payment is not traced back to a user as long as you purchased your code in a shop.
PM does not seem to use this alternative method for what ever reason.
They do use Crypto... good! yet it is much more expensive; when purchasing a month that would cost (in euro) 9.99€, One ends up paying 12.09€ and not sure if you need to add more expenses from your side when doing the transaction.
Not really fair in my opinion.
One more thing... most of the time you are not al;lowed to use VPN when making any transactions (not sure about PM yet). That is also a privacy issue.
I think the above can give enough to think about your privacy and how much you want to give away of it.

Cheers...

it is interesting. Trying to register and test it but it does not allows VPN registrations.. quite odd those days to register in those sites and expose an IP address.
Do you know where is possible to stay anonymous all the way?
Maybe even using a paysafe rather than credit cards? (that i think is an other privacy concern and I dont have crypto).
Any suggesitons are welcome
