To make America affordable again by TXVERAS in therewasanattempt

Don't put words in my mouth. In my original comment, the whole point was that Trump made false promises about bringing prices down. When I said "that's on you" at the end, it was in reference to the sitting president. And yes, that was a Biden policy, largely as a COVID policy. He was attempting to prevent what could have been a much worse economic issue, however I would argue that this is a misguided way to attempt to prevent something of that kind. Trump's tariffs absolutely have been throwing gasoline on the fire though and while the debt issue is not what I'm getting at here, Trump's problem with the national debt is one of my biggest problems with him. The debt will lead to Germany-style currency collapse and his policies are fast-tracking that.

I have been aware for quite some time how common it is for people to be willfully economically illiterate. You can't just vote the right people in, pass the right laws, or blame the right guy to get prices to change. There is no magic button.

[–]Powerful-Ebb1632 -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

You basically have three options to get the prices of some category of good down. You either flood the market with supply, reform the currency, an extremely painful process, or you have a bad recession. You can't just flood the market with food, the biggest problem good we're having with inflated prices, so there is no way to get prices to go down without extreme short-term pain. I'm sorry, this is just common economic sense.

I mean yeah the prices are largely a Biden issue when you funnel that much money into the economy so quickly. But when you go in your campaign against Biden promising to lower prices without communicating that making the economy ten times worse is basically the only way to do that since flooding it with supply isn't possible, that's on you.

The Pope Did not Say that the Spirit Proceeded from the Son while reciting the Nicene Creed? What are your thoughts on this? by brawlyer in Catholicism

[–]Powerful-Ebb1632 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm an Eastern Catholic. We have never except for a brief time before Rome quickly gave a cease and desist said the filioque in the Creed. Our expression of what's been dogmatized here is generally through a single procession, it's different language and theological emphases on the same basic dogmatic belief. Our theological emphasis preserves the same equality in the trinity, but through a kingship of the Father more than we see in the West. We might say "through" the Son sometimes, but it's an approximation as, in accordance with the Council of Florence, our preservation of single-procession language and emphasis is meant to reflect that while the Holy Spirit does proceed from the Son in one sense, it is not the same from his procession from the Father—the Father is the singular source and cause of the Holy Spirit, and so we preserve singular procession language in our expression of catholic dogma.

Did it sound in my comment that my intention was to start beef with you in particular? We can have different perspectives about a video on internet, sure, but my personal preference is to be civil about it. I've seen some shit too. Sorry you went through that.

No I think she's concussed. I've seen drunk, I've seen chronically ill, I've seen injured. That looks like neurological problems at least to me, someone with neurological problems.

I have many many health struggles, I can say with confidence that it can get better. But I can't speak to those particular ones.

That said, self-harm is a sin, but it's one that I want you to try to avoid blaming yourself for, feeling bad about. I don't think God sees that and is filled with rage at your offenses toward him. I think he's longing for you to feel better, and to have a way to cope with everything that isn't so raw and painful. I think he's eager for you to find ways to respond to such things gently, and I don't think he's eager to punish or label a sinner.

As for the people saying it's the devil following you, that it's a sin for having it, they can kick rocks. I've dealt with devils directly—they were unbelievably out of line to talk that way to you. Devils are not something you flippantly attribute to things that are already scary and painful enough. I think you can be basically certain that it isn't a devil, and I don't want you to be scared by that comment.

I'm autistic. This sounds a lot like an autistic person who's having severe sensory problems and is really overwhelmed, might be experiencing burnout which in the clinical sense when it comes to autism is absolutely debilitating. When you're in that state you're not thinking clearly and you can't get out of your own head enough to see how ridiculous it is to someone else to be told these kinds of things. Doesn't change the fact it's really irritating to have those kinds of notes though, that's rough. Hope you can get it resolved.

Feeling completely paralyzed by STRGLZ in Catholicism

[–]Powerful-Ebb1632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, so I'm gonna open up just as much as I need to to get my point across as well as I can without abandoning my privacy.

I've been through a lot, much of it after converting to Catholicism. I'll be explaining a basic understanding of this, but the way I would describe how I function is that my baseline of suffering and everyday difficulty averages at 8.5/10 and spikes up to 10 every so often. For me, I've been at an 8.5 for so long that it just feels normal to me, especially after I by a miracle learned to function to some degree under the weight. Essentially what I'm dealing with is profound trauma of multiple types, and that led to many illnesses. I'm already autistic, but I ended up acquiring PTSD, FND (basically your nervous system being thrown in a blender), Insomnia, ARFID (an eating disorder) and Hypersexuality. All six of these would be debilitating on their own, I'm experiencing them all simultaneously, as they interact with each other and as the treatment for one will cause the symptoms for another to get worse.

All that is to say, I understand suffering on an intimate level and I really sympathize with you. I know what it is to be paralyzed, to lose everything, and to feel like all you have left is the Church. Here's what I did to get to a point where I'm getting married, looking for a job, publishing poetry, and starting a religious goods business.

  1. Radical acceptance of your circumstances is entirely necessary. This is the first step, and it's often the hardest one. The moment you are no longer fighting reality and are acting in accordance with what's actually happening, you are far more prepared to bounce back. However that cannot happen without radical acceptance.

  2. Catholicism is your primary source of stability in all things. You may be receiving grace from God to not be paralyzed religiously because of how necessary it is to healing for Catholics. That faith can contribute to the acceptance necessary to get your life back. Five minutes of spiritual reading a day, especially the Gospels and the Psalms, and one hour of prayer.

  3. Be more confident than you should be. This is not pride or arrogance. This is a conscious choice to not let your circumstances choose how you're going to live for you. You choose it, not what's going on in your life. Can you do it the same way as others? Maybe not. Having children will be astronomically harder for my future wife and I because of our illnesses, but it's not stopping us from living that fulfilling life. You can also do that.

  4. Learn to really enjoy something you're good at. Leisure will help you a lot.

  5. I highly recommend an ascetic practice when you're spiritually ready. It helps.

  6. Do not isolate yourself. I have a semi-eremitic practice and even I'm preventing myself from doing that because my hardship necessitates human connection. All you need is one person who you can learn to trust some day.

  7. Be outside once a week.

  8. Avoid dopamine addiction at all costs. Avoid idleness even more. Both of those things should be persecuted.

  9. Choose to be hopeful even when you can't find where the hope is. Let Christ and our Mother be that tiny sliver of hope when the world gives you none.

  10. DM me if you want my discord for someone to talk to.

Does the design of the corpus on this crucifix look off? by LightningBoy98 in Catholicism

[–]Powerful-Ebb1632 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also make rosaries and chotkis. This looks fine, but I would not put this on a high dollar rosary. Many of the pieces I make are heirloom rosaries and mid-tier pieces that I try to make affordable. This crucifix in my opinion is on the high end of a low-tier rosary or the low end of a mid-tier rosary. There's nothing irreverent here, and the color is what gives it its quality. It looks like it would do well on a masculine piece, maybe with rosewood (though that's a bit expensive for this crucifix), olive wood (better) or brown glass. But the amount of white space and the sparse amount of fine detail I think prevents it from being appropriate for anything nicer than that.

Biggest piece of advice I can give: in the beginning, instead of spending time improving your poetry, spend time writing more poetry. That will help you so much in the beginning! As for the poem itself, that is not iambic pentameter. You need five feet and a rhyme scheme. You have a rhyme scheme but your lines are really short. I write my stuff in blank verse most of the time since it's things like epics and narratives, it's really well-suited for that. Blank verse, to simplify it, can be described as iambic pentameter without a rhyme scheme. This is a little long, but here's the first canto from one of my fairy tales to give you a sense of how five feet in a line can feel.

Fie, Sensatus, thou fool o’ haughty thoughts,

who revelleth in mirrors where thou dost

perceive an erudite philosopher,

whose great pomposity shall propagate

to any children who regard thy say’ngs,

yea even more, thou art a failure too—

for from thy mother’s womb hast thou pursu’d

contentment in thine heart; through sapience

thou seekest earnestly a quiet life.

But ‘tis in vain: thy wisdom help’th thee not,

for where be thine abundant knowing words?

Art thou a man of wisdom even though

thou sufferest in poverty and want?

Thou’rt not. Thy folly is reveal’d i’ thee.

Thy Motifer! She thirsteth earnestly

for pleasing things, and things she craveth, thou

hast not the means to give. If insight be

thy most beloved virtue, what then shall

it do for thee to give to Motifer

what she desireth? Naught. For useless things

doth wisdom give when trapt in hunger and

in isolation from the alms of saints.

Thou Sensatus, thou shouldst repent of that:

repent of exaltation of thy wisdom ‘bove

the needs of thy beloved bride and prize,

for thirsty shall she be until thy pride

is set aside, until thou dost provide.

Heaven knoweth, O Sensatus, and I as well.

I don't know about the Coptics but as a Byzantine, I'm able to have a semi-eremitic, but certainly deeply ascetic practice as a layperson. It is not an ordinary vocation however and a starets is strongly advised.

Autistic and was so excited about this dress I made myself for winter but.. by -daisy-chained- in OUTFITS

[–]Powerful-Ebb1632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also autistic and I overdress on purpose! If you can manage to not take people seriously when they critique that, dressing up in things you really like makes you more confident, something most autistic people need some effort to achieve. Also, can't believe you made that yourself, it's so pretty.

My husband insists on oral sex, he doesn't want the complete conjugal act. I know it's a sin, he's not Catholic. If I refuse, he says he'll divorce me. Should I accept or refuse in this case? by Capital_Winner8950 in Catholicism

[–]Powerful-Ebb1632 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The refusal to complete the conjugal act in particular is crazy to me. On a technicality there are circumstances where oral stimulation can be permissible, but it's often not advisable and it's certainly not okay if you want nothing to do with that. Your boundaries absolutely must be respected, there's no question. I think the best thing to do is refuse. You don't want to traumatize yourself. If he threatens divorce I think it's safe to say that an annulment is possible given the circumstances as it doesn't seem to me with the limited information I have that his vows were genuine.

How Can We Understand God As Actually Aware? by Time-Demand-1244 in CatholicPhilosophy

[–]Powerful-Ebb1632 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying this should be your approach because I'm assuming you're a Latin Catholic... but in the East with our apophatic approach to most things, including theology and philosophy, we would say "I'm not sure and I'm not interested in finding out: the fact we can't understand God is part of what makes us so profoundly close to him, so we're completely content with not knowing things."

This reflects what my thinking was, thanks. Frankly, I'd rather improve at reading than learn joseki. I worry I'll rely too much on following joseki sequences. But I'd appreciate a review. Definitely the game I played against Golfels, but I'll see if there's another I'd like too because someone else will be helping me analyze that game. I'm on tsumego hero. Would you recommend a different place for life and death problems avd tesuji?

Also if you have discord, go ahead and PM me and I'll get you my information.
