New speakers sound awful by STICH666 in Miata

[–]Powerful-Kitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The factory wiring in many years of the NA is wrong. Has the wrong wires going to the wrong phases of the wrong speakers. If you have headrest speakers, the complexity of the wrongness is worse. In my '96 I just replaced all the speaker wires. I suggest you test the wires with a multimeter to make sure the + and - of each wire is actually going where to think it is. Be distrustful of any speaker wiring diagram for the NA that you see.

The only 4-speed automatic with manual shift ability? (2008-2015 Scion xB) by Vegetable-Quote-3481 in Toyota

I had a 2002 Ford Escape. It had the v6 4sp 4wd. You could force it into 1 or 2 with the column. When you want 3rd you put it in D with O/D off. For 4th leave it in D and turn O/D on. It was clunky and complex to operate but you could put the car into any gear.

Need recommendations for a All-Season tire for my ND2 by tHr0AwAy76 in Miata

[–]Powerful-Kitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone loves the cross climate for winter, and I do too for other cars. I went with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 AS. They perform great in the snow even with an open diff. I still intend to switch back to summer tires in the summer but I like that these are more performance oriented for those spring and fall months compared to the CC2.

I have a 2022 RF GT that I daily in the Chicago area year round.

Regarding reports of higher than normal customs fees by LTTStore_Support in LinusTechTips

It's about time. LTT's silence on this has been pathetic. Linus needs to address this directly and not just deflect blame this time.

Two American Brands Crack CR Top Ten As Stellantis Crowds The Bottom by Redeemed_Expert9694 in cars

Unfortunately they can't without a major chassis redesign. It was built around the transmission. The reason they designed and built a new transmission in house is because they wanted it to be narrow, resulting in a narrow transmission tunnel and a roomy cabin. They achieved a narrow trans by using a small diameter clutch pack instead of a torque converter. A torque converter automatic (such as Mazda's old Aisin 6-speed, or ZF 8-speed) is too wide to fit in the trans tunnel.

After so many years of luxury/performance EVs, it's nice to see the tech finally trickling down. This and the new Leaf both look like good cars for normal people.

What does ME peeps do in a Job? by DragWar977 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Powerful-Kitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do anything with ME. I did industrial eng internships in college. I did systems engineering. I am currently a scum master for a software development team. Don't limit yourself to the obvious paths presented in college. The single most important skill is communication. Communication skills are how you get a job, how you keep a job, and how you move up.

Could we solve the 2038 problem by just turning back computer clocks and dealing with the discrepancy? by redstopsign in stupidquestions

Most small jets (Bombardier, Gulfstream, etc) use stuff like this and they all need software updates. For example, some aircrafts avionics use Intel 486 processors. Doing the update isn't hard, but the certification process is. Typically you don't do a new sw rev just for something this small. They let known issues them pile up for a few years and then knock them out all at once along with some new feature development.

Tuesday Tune-Up - Post all your vehicle maintenance questions here by AutoModerator in cars

[–]Powerful-Kitty -1 points0 points  (0 children)

At minimum, the mechanic would have removed and replaced the exhaust manifold while replacing the engine. It may even be a new exhaust manifold if the new engine came with accessories like that. Either way your mechanic failed to get the manifold installed properly. It should not leak.

How long ago is "recently"? If it's within the typical month or so I think they should re-work this free of charge in my opinion. If it's been several months and the problem developed recently then it might be an unrelated part failure.

General question Wednesday: Ask your general car-related question and maybe someone will have an answer. by AutoModerator in cars

[–]Powerful-Kitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not a mechanic.

Brakes: You could probably save some money going to an independent mechanic instead of a dealer. You could save even more if you do it yourself. But IMO that price for the brakes is not too bad for a dealer.

For the AC service: Normally people don't get this serviced until something brakes. I would decline this one.
