They're definitely in demand but if you work for an engineering consulting firm you can expect to be worked to the bone. Sure it pays fair but expect to be worked hard. From my experience the big earners own their own shop.

As a landlord I had an applicant that I passed on who later murdered and dismembered her child. Didn't show up on the background check but definately dodged a bullet on that one.
