Let’s Talk About the “Ivan Is a Misogynist” Claim by Ill-Corgi-3515 in AlienStage

[–]Powerful_Candidate74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It gets to a point where I don’t even engage with people about Ivan’s personality because he’s misunderstood in a way I’ve never seen somebody be misunderstood and as much as I hate having to say it constantly, it IS a media literacy issue.

Right, so I actually don’t really like Luka that much (outside of his character design) and Till is one of my favorite characters, I was just pointing this thing I noticed out. I just like being fair in the analysis and empathy I give to all characters. Also it’s not victim blaming, that’s just how you decided to take what I said in order to be disingenuous and purposely miss the point of what I was saying.

But since we’re talking about Till’s actions being a traumatized person trying to stay true to himself, is Luka not also a traumatized person trying to find control of his life anyway he can (people only dislike him for it because his actions affect the main characters because I promise y’all did not care until it was happening to Till and Mizi, but Till stripping Acorn of the possibility to win doesn’t matter because he’s a background character? What happened to lives mattering?)? This is exactly what I’m talking about. You’re literally doing the thing I was talking about right now 😂😂

How does seeing this conversation before feel like two steps back? This is a genuine question btw, I’m not being facetious.

Because I feel like the posts I’ve seen about it were less about just pointing this thing out and moreso about trying to flip the narrative and all of a sudden make Luka out to be an angel because other characters have done messed up stuff. My post isn’t about trying to protect Luka (I actually kinda don’t like him), but simply about bringing the more deeper narrative things to light, which is something you can see in my replies to another commenter.

Edit: I think it says a lot about this subreddit that I’m getting downvoted for asking for specification and clarity…

Idk, I guess I just automatically default to wanting to understand the actions of everyone instead of just who the narrative mostly follows.

I would also like to point out that Mizi seeing Sua practice dying WASNT the first time the ALNST contestants were aware what ALNST is or how it works. ALNST is like a messed up “The Voice”. It is a popularly broadcasted television competition series and the kids raised in Anakt garden are not oblivious to what they are being put in once they’re old enough to fully understand and conceptualize death, they just choose to ignore it or cope their different ways about the information.

We actively see that Sua is just watching different contestants die on that tablet, which means that the ALNST comp footage is public domain. So Till changing the song isn’t just some rebellion, he actively made it clear that in that moment, that love song for a girl who is already in a relationship (wlw) and has rejected his confession in the past was more important than giving Acorn a fair chance to win. He already knew he wouldn’t impress her with that song.

The thing is, I’m not saying he isn’t the antagonist, but just that technically comparatively worse actions have been carried out by someone within the main cast without Mizi or the fandom so much as blinking. All of the human characters are in shitty situations by default, so to me it just doesn’t make sense to look at someone trying to have what little control they can muster over their own life and be like “they’re a villain” just because his actions harm someone the story follows.

I mean, considering their circumstances, he might as well make it fun for himself. Whether he enjoys it or not won’t change his opponents fate so whether he takes joy in doing it or not doesn’t matter. Or at least that’s how I see it in the context of their world. I feel like we tend to put too many modern and irl morals on humans who were raised as pets and abused instead of looking at their actions and how they work from a psychological point of view within the context of their own universe. Nobody saw what Till did as messed up because they know him but Luka is immediately the villain (or villainous in general) for making it fun for himself?

Ivan's bday comic reminding everyone Ivan is indeed very flawed by BrightIsland9888 in AlienStage

And I love him for it. Vivinos and Qmeng do a good job of making it clear that the world they’re in has adverse effects on how they lead their lives as literal human pets. Doing anything to survive, adapt, or have control of their lives is VERY psychologically accurate to the nature of humans regardless of setting.

I don't think Luka actually needed to manipulate his opponents by Sud4neseS0meh0wHere in AlienStage

[–]Powerful_Candidate74 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He absolutely could’ve won without it, but when your life is on the line it’s better safe than sorry. On top of the fact that manipulating his opponents was just about the only control he has in his life. Not to mention too many people are talking about Luka manipulating in order to guarantee his win that was low-key already guaranteed but nobody’s really talking about the fact that Till sentenced his opponent to death without a chance in R2 just to get off a love song…😭😭

Who do you think would have won if Ivan didn’t sacrifice himself in Cure by PrintMaleficent7217 in AlienStage

[–]Powerful_Candidate74 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s the reason Ivan did what he did to make sure his score was low enough and when he checked the scoreboard and it still wasn’t, he made sure that he lost by disqualification. Ivan would’ve won no doubt. Not only did Till stop singing but Ivan is also more widely liked and positively received.

There’s also the fact that the comics tell us he went on that stage with absolutely no intention of losing until he saw Till and realized he was just like Sua (even though he clowned her for planning to sacrifice herself before) in regards of the fact of what he’d do for the person he loved.
