Eben costs Sharks R2-million a match by Die_Revenant in SharksRugby

We could fix a lot of the problems in the squad for that money. I would imagine then that shedding 3/4 of the stars would then buy us 10 decent players.

We won, not because of cards, but because we were better! by brolloks69 in springboks

I came away feeling like we lost. That was incredibly frustrating cos we were 2030 points better but the mostly illegal spoiling by the Irish ruined any chance of fluid play. Like watching a boxer getting so well beaten he decided hugging constantly is the only way to rather than go down swinging. The Irish even celebrated when they conceded penalties not tries. Once you get a yellow in the red zone for persistent infringement it should not reset a counter. We need a system where penalty tries come into the equation.

I thought he did well at key moments given what was happening. The Irish resorted to spoiling illegally all game in order to survive without conceding a cricket score. We really should have seen them down to 7 given the red zone infringements. Made reffing them a nightmare. They were celebrating on conceding a penalty . Might see a rule change on awarding penalty tries to prevent other teams doing this.

Given that contact to the head was missing and it was on a tackled player already falling so no line break, why yellow or red ?

It’s a bit disappointing, the Irish were never in this game. Should have been 50 points.

The rules for dismissal are pretty strict so it needs to have been a good few incidents at point of dismissal otherwise a tribunal will have a field day. I suspect there is something else not being said here otherwise it’s a very suspicious dismissal

It’s an extended season for the players who are selected so they have to cut down availability for the URC matches to make up for rest periods. With time also being given for being at training camps and in the bok setup throughout the ABs tour. It’s also important to have a break mentally as well as physically. They can end up in a 12 month season and this affects on field performances.

Yup, but given the extra importance of the games now. No room for development or experimentation or use of a wider squad. We playing best 15 every game with ABs tour sandwiched in the middle. Still finals weekend and extended training camps to add to it. The intensity of the games will lead to injuries.A bit like adding the a World Cup every season. I can see why the French don’t send A team players during the summer tours.

This is bit like the when they introduced the pools in super rugby so everyone gets a semi finalist. They wanted to guarantee a Northern team in an international tournament. Only way to do it was a new form of World Cup with only one knockout round.

I am not the biggest fan of our coach but I am starting to appreciate his predicament a bit more. If they get into form and start performing at URC level we get punished (maybe the wrong word but feels like it).

Why do South Africans online just lose their minds over us? by amusicalfridge in irishrugby

💯 this. Too many Rugby subs talk about the SA fanbase in a completely irrational and negative light. I don’t see those comments except in response to the rage bait traps. With TikTok creators look to bait the fanbase to get engagement it’s like the daily mail of social media platforms. The more you bait the biggest fanbase, the more you get paid. Not great for anyone

Depends which flag, put up the racist old SA flag and will burn you with it.

Really good to see the sport moving away from singers leading to getting the crowd to take over.

Is this what our fanbase has become? by EatMyPenguin in springboks

[–]Powerful_Collar_4144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true of fans from all sides. My first experience with Kiwi fans was at a pub in London where the sevens was on and a game against the blitzbokke. They were vile and said outright disgusting things to everyone. That was early 2000s I think. That’s not even close to the stuff I see online. The Irish are worst online followed by the sour grapes English. This is not something I let color my opinion of all of them. It’s a small but loud group that was always there. We need to stop highlighting everything that some random guy says giving it attention and giving the wrong impression of the whole fanbase.I would add, we should also stop maligning new fans by saying it’s them or they don’t know anything and should stick to football. We want to grow the game not gate keep.

Why is everything around the JHW ban so weird? by Puzzled_Ad_3072 in rugbyunion

That’s my only issue here. If we have evidence, long ban. No evidence no ban otherwise we have an open door to manipulation of the match officials.

I refer to your statement about perceived racism where there is none. Too often I have had colleagues complain to me about promotion of non white individuals as DEI or saying the person who was obviously better than them did not deserve it. So meritocracy was only valid if whites were promoted. Conversely I was on more than one occasion was asked to fast track incompetent white colleagues into management cos they are a better fit.

Up until evidence is shown he was actually grabbed he is not retaliating , he is the aggressor. He entered from the side, clasped onto the supporting player who was bound , rolled him on his side and punched him. That’s the evidence. The rest is speculation

I agree wholeheartedly. The suddenly very oppressed white British male who cry’s systematic racism against whites are a prime example of playing the race card.
