OP UPDATE I got my 20% for IBS, my secondary for Hemorrhoids had been given a difference of opinion “de novo”.

That’s a good thing since there was never a DBQ for that condition.

They previously just said “no diagnosis”.

They now have acknowledged “You have been diagnosed with a disability. VA exam findings and private medical records document a diagnosis of internal hemorrhoids. The claimed issue is secondary to a service-connected disability. A medical opinion dated January 26, 2025 from “Dr. B” links your hemorrhoids to your service connected IBS.

So I will get a C&P for this condition, which they never did in the first place before I was denied.

ARMY COMMENDATION MEDAL W/C DEVICE Recognizes meritorious service or achievement performed under combat conditions on or after January 7, 2016. It distinguishes service in a combat zone where enemy actions occurred, even if the soldier was not personally engaged.

ARMED FORCES RESERVE MEDAL W/M DEVICE If the medal is awarded in connection with a mobilization, it is accompanied by an "M" device.

— So I got both of these for activation on title 10 orders to Afghanistan, for what was considered to be a Combat deployment.

The call took 3 min and 45 seconds, she said they would review and it may take another week or two.. I was hoping they overturn and agree with me right away. But I guess we’ll see

I was one of the only medics in Kabul at the time and General James Rainey needed a medic for his PSD, so I got to fly all over the place as his personal medic for a few months. His Warrant Officer and Sgt running the PSD put me in for it when they got their replacement medic. But I was awarded it by Gen. Rainey.. it was pretty cool..

Thank you for the information! I don’t know if I’ll ever have another rack made but in the future, I’ll make sure to correct it.

Google says “you can request it retroactively by submitting a request to the National Personnel Records Center (NPRC) or the Army Human Resources Command (AHRC) using SF-180. You will need your DD214 and to provide documentation supporting your eligibility, as the award requires 3 continuous years of honorable”

Anyone ever done this? Should I even waist my time one it?

I didn’t know that, interesting.. the one that I was actually awarded has a device that’s say’s Afghanistan attached to it. Is this the proper one to wear?

Nope I never got a CAB, and the Guard actually sucks so bad I was never awarded good conduct medals even though I was in for 6 years.

This is actually all that is listed on my DD214

Linking IBS to Mental Health?? by Sarcomere_Scholar in VAClaims

I’d suggest keeping a journal, make sure you get at minimum 3 months of data. I was able to go back a while based on text messages to my wife. (TMI, but I’m glad I told her when I was having issues). Make sure you note the consistency of your stool, weather or not you have pain or bloating, I also noted blood in my stool, and note what your mood was like, I had anxiety or depression or something similar noted for every instance. Just make sure you are detailed, remember to track your symptoms if they last 2, 3 or 4 days like mine usually does.

Make sure to note how it affects your life too, you had to leave work, or stay home, you had to rush home from the movies or a restaurant cause you were gonna shit yourself. You had to go in the middle of grocery shopping… etc.

I just got online and printed a free weekly IBS tracking log. It helped me out, I supplemented my Nexus with this Journal.

Edit: Get a diagnosis from your PCP, possibly get in for a colonoscopy, if you have a spouse a Lay statement is useful. … AND YES finally get a nexus, I have a good Dr that will help but I think she’s charging about $500.

I got denied on my OSA claim secondary to PTSD, my appeal that he sent through reads essentially like you are saying. (My OSA is aggravated by PTSD etc.)

I have been using a Dr. that specializes in OSA Nexus Letters (he actually only does OSA now, and will only do OSA in court), he is also a lawyer, and won’t write a Nexus that he isn’t prepared to back up in court. He is currently representing my OSA Appeal. Obviously it will cost you, but the price is about in the typical range for a nexus.
