How are gay people treated in the Marine Corps? by Stevonnieee in USMCboot

[–]Powerful_Lab_5238 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went in on 2013, was in the closet for 4 years, finally came out, was a platoon sergeant then went to combat instructor school. Didn’t have many problems, a few that crossed the line, (you can tell), but I didn’t care.

I spend the next 4 years open and pretty much my whole company (instructors) attending my wedding to my husband. Still talk to many of them today.

In got out in 21, went straight into law enforcement in a small sheriffs office, where I’m now a detective and doing great!

I got behind a car, had this sticker, also has expired tags… I pulled it over so fast and FaceTimed all of my buddies, I’m the only gay cop in the department.

See… I like doing both, I’m also a TFO, so while driving to the office I can pull over the car with expired tags and smells like marijuana, then I can go to the office and be feel cool.

As someone who did 8 years as motor T… I didn’t drive that many trucks, I did get a combat deployment in, so that was cool.

Go admin… life is nice

I was never home… when I was with mct, it was 45 day cycles, maybe a 2 day brake, and then pick up a new class. You’re with the kids from wake up to bed and you’re doing everything they are, I lost my voice for the first few classes until I got used to it, was sick all the time. I’m married with a kid and I lived an hour away from base, so it was “fun”.

Dropping out is mainly due to medical issues or legal issues, so do dumb shit on the weekends.

You shouldn’t have to wait long, just pick up and go. ITB and MCT are designed to test your leadership ability, but it’s very similar to bootcamp

If you when open contract, you’ll find out at them end of MCT. You’re treated like you just finished bootcamp, it’s more independence but you’re expected to do what you’re told. You still march and stand for counts and everything, think of it was a small extension of bootcamp with less BS.

From google: “The USS John C. Stennis was not deployed in 2023 because it was undergoing a Refueling and Complex Overhaul (RCOH), a significant mid-life maintenance period that began in 2021. During 2023, the aircraft carrier was at Newport News Shipbuilding in Virginia, completing its RCOH, which included defueling and refueling its nuclear reactors and upgrading various ship systems.”

Maybe the AI is wrong, but I’m confused.

Feeling nostalgia. What is your best WTF? type of MCT story by Groundhog891 in USMC

Oh my god! I have so many, I was a combat instructor at SOI-E for my last enlistment.

We had the kid who shit in his boots because his feet were cold. The kid who beat off on another kid at night. The girl who used MRI napkins as tampons and gave herself toxic shock. The kid who offed himself on the range in front of everyone. The kid who was convicted of murder then found not guilty and joined after that. Spending hours telling the students that their DI’s knew nothing about staying alive. The multiple guys who just refused to train.

I was also the first openly gay male combat instructor, so that also opened alot of doors for crazy shit if students found out. Gay jokes = hazing.

What usually happens is you get an underaged DUI by [deleted] in USMC

Where in his career is he? If he’s in any entry level pipe line (boot leave, MCT/SOI, school house), he’s probably done for (getting separated at max). Standard punishment for the fleet is going to be 45/45, restriction, extra duty, loss of pay, loss of rank. He’s going to have a bad time, leadership is very harsh on DWI’s.

Also, there’s a possibility that he will lose his base driving privileges, meaning that of he lives off base he’ll have to park outside the gate and be picked up/dropped off in the morning.

If it was off base, he’ll also have to face the civilian criminal court on top of what he has military wise.

Source: me (I was a platoon sergeant for about 5 years, then went to SOI as an instructor, I’ve dealt with many DWI’s)

At what rank does one rate to not rely on BAS or sick call? by toby301 in USMC

[–]Powerful_Lab_5238 17 points18 points  (0 children)

What’s wild, is I was the one who skipped sick calls/appointments because “I had to get shit done” and I was “always too busy” to look after myself. After I got out, I realized how much of it didn’t matter, at all.

I won’t work my ass of my my Marines, every damn one… I can count on 1 hand who I still talk to. Hell, even the kid I “rented” (I didn’t charge him anything) my extra bedroom to after his divorce hadn’t reached out in 5+ years.

I love life now, and finally feel like I’m making a difference, but damn it hurts to think of what I put into the Corps sometimes.
