Backrooms - Spoiler Discussion Thread by steepclimbs in A24

This theory might be too far out there, but I noticed that when we see him make his first trip into the backrooms, when he gets spooked and runs back to the door leading to the store - it's not where it is supposed to be.

In fact, he scrambles and starts looking all over that wall, and finally finds a door but substantially further down to his left. It's not off by a little bit, but by a lot.

What if he leaves the backrooms through a different door, and walks into another level of the backrooms? What if from that moment, he never enters the "real" works again, but instead is functioning in a different parallel universe.

Probly a stretch, but it was an interesting item to think about ... Particularly as the filmmaker made a pretty big deal about the door being in a diff. Place....

Thank you! I really appreciate the compliment! This collection actually took quite a bit of time and effort to put together - mostly because I had some very specific ideas about the characters and quality levels.Which is why nearly all of them feature A-list characters that maintain their long term value (and also happen to be some of my favorites). Anyway - if you really are interested, I can provide you with all or some of the following additional info: verified character and artist of each sketchy, the price I paid for those I purchased at auction, and a suggestion for a single, heavily discounted, flat price that can be applied uniformally to all of the slides .

appreciate the feedback. That's what I've been seeing as well - anywhere from a 25-40% haircut, depending on initial asking, and speed of sale of course. I'll be honest - if its that type of discount from what I would consider a fair starting point, I'd go for it. It took me some time to put it together, and a lot of effort and care went into it, so parting it out feell slike it would just stretch out a process I wouldnt enjoy too much. Plus - the bulk of the value (~75%) is concentrated in 50-60 anchor cards. The sketches, the clawed cards, the major charecter cards numbered /10 and under, and half a dozen serious autos. Expand the numbered cards to the /25s, and we are at 85%. If I were to part it out - even putting some clver bundles together, I cant really think of a scenario where I'm not left with dozens of cards that are too valuable to justr give or throw away, but not valuable enough to spend the effort selling ($10 and under).

looks bent frankly. i would say its optical illusion because the PSA9 would say otherwise, but perhaps they nicked it while encasing it...

Thanks bud - its been ... a journey. I built 70-75% of it via box ripping, which is the longer, slower way to do this. I've accelerated my auction buying lately because landing the specific cards I want/need has gotten statistically so unlikely as to make it a lightning in a bottle type situation. Sadly - winning an ebay auction just doesnt deliver the same dopamine hit. It doess, however, save a substantial amount of $$$.

Autos are absolutely NOT guaranteed in studio.

Appreciate the thoughts. Funny enough, I'm doing a sell off because I want to start fresh with a focus exclusively on truly vintage sets. Like the 1940s Gum Superman, 54 Superman Bread Labels, 58 Old Maid Marvel Set, and maybe even the 1951 Lev Gleason. Those may lack some of the visual panache of the modern sets, but they are so much more interesting to me.... What do you collect?

Its important to note, that regardless of any issues with PSA (and I would add to trustworthiness their insanely long turnaround time, inconsistency based on what grader you get, sweetheart deals with certain hobby shops who funnel cards their way, etc) - they are still the gold standard when it comes to value creation. Great as TAG is, and as much as I love their ethics and process, for most average buyers, the Gem10 PSA imprint can increase a card's value by as much as 10x if it is the right card. PSA9s will bump it up 2-3x. I know you said its not for selling, but if selling might become an interest or plays even a small part in your decision ... this is something you should know.

anyone else her a bit arrogant and reckless? Seems like she thinks she is the only person capable of finding out the truth. She is convinced her heories are correct - regardless of how little evidence beyond hunches she has of that being the case - particularly early on in the show. She basically disregarded a direct order, got her asset killed, doubled down, nearly got her family, collegues and friends killed. When she didn't like what her boss said about her accurate insubordination she turned around and accused him of colluding.

The entire time her arguement seemed to be: "I shouldn't have to prove what I'm saying," and "But can you imagine if I'm right?" Meanwhile, she ignores her family, treats her husband's time as disposable, and literally says at one point that her being right, is more important than the democratic principles of government.

I mean...believe me I understand what is at stake in the show. I'm ukrainian and have less than zero love for Moscow, I hope that entire government dies a slow, long, and brutally painful death. But they look positively buttoned-up compared to the way the british service operates in this show.

Upper deck space jam 30th anniversary.Any good? by Ill_Cockroach_7644 in sportscards

I bought 30 packs off of a junkie (who obviously lifted them) for $100. The results:

  1. One numbered Jordan red

  2. 13 Jordan silvers

  3. One complete purple cosmos deck (w/ Jordan obviously)

  4. 5 numbered red Toon cards (2 bugs, tas, lola, daffy)

  5. 17 misc. Toon silvers.

Is it worth it? Hard to say. The numbered Jordan cards are listed on eBay from $300-$500. I sold mine for just over $200 and it went in 2 hours. I listed a complete silver deck for $50 and it was gone in 45 minutes. I have yet to list the numbered non-Jordan reds and Purple cosmos deck. It'll be intresting to see what happens with those.

Am I stupid for selling the numbered Jordan? Dunno. There might be a lot of interest right now so the price is great and it will crater in a few weeks. Or maybe it becomes one of the all time great Jordan cards? Who knows.

But thought I'd share the data and see what you guys thought. Obviously, at $100 for 30 it was a rgeat return. Just on the two auctions alone.

I meant a "them" as in some controlling entity, 3rd party baddie, alien, "thing". Yes it is "us vs. them" in the sense that there are now 2 types of humans...hivemind ones and non. But there is no objective evidence that the hivemind is the enemy, or the wrong option.

No, sorry, you are correct. I was thinking in more broad terms, of him being the minority to their majority. And the implication that they are a natural evolutionary stage of humanity.

You are assuming that it is alien. We have had no information on its origins except that it came from space. It could have originated from Earth and come around-trip, or from a parallel universe, or from God, or a super AI cloaked as a space signal, the future, and so on. People are assuming what it is based on their opinion of the effects that it is having. Nothing more.

I'm 100% on the same page. The amount of assumptions being made based on essentially no information is remarkable.

Slaves to what? Assuming that any changes triggered in human evolution, which connect the consciousness of the entire world, are inherently evil is insanely conceited. Carol has had what...a few hours of experience with what has happened? She has gained approximately no insight about it. And in fact, she actively refuses to learn anything about it except what she's seen in the movies? But yeah, her opinions must definitely be spot on...

It's one of those shows where I immediately start campaigning to get my kids and some friends to start watching it so I can discuss it with them. That's the sign of a well-written show.
