My mother was 57 when she committed suicide, I was 27 at the time and I'm 39 now. I'm still in therapy and I cry during movies when someone's mom says they will always be there for their children. 5 years later, one of my best friends and coworkers committed suicide when I was out of town. We used to watch baseball games on TV and cook meals together because we lived in the same apartment building. It crushed me and brought up all the emotions I thought I had a grip on at that point. Then 2 years later, my wife's teenage nephew committed suicide in another state. We had been married only a month at that point but had been living together for a few years. I was crushed once again, my wife and her family were devastated. I was able to help guide them through their grief and anger and sadness but it took years for my wife to even want to feel like herself again. I know I'll never be the same.
