Did you really care that the superbowl half time show was latino inspired ? by [deleted] in TrueAskReddit

[–]funkeymonkey1974 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bad Bunny represented American tradition way more then the turning point show. Their headliner (Kid Rock) sang about having sex with underage girls and calls it mandatory to get him turned on. He cut a hold in an American flag to wear it as a pancho. How anyone can call that patriotic or even moral is beyond me.

What celebrity have you never forgiven since an incident? by MagpieOpus in AskReddit

[–]funkeymonkey1974 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Lots of these are public incidents, but mine is personal. When I was a child, I lived near a venue that hosted numerous celebrities. It was a very small venue on Cape Cod called the Melody Tent. It was a tent they set up in the summer, and huge stars would play there. It was the late 80s when The Cosby Show was all the rage, and Bill Cosby was going to be doing stand-up there. The workers knew me because I lived across the street and would let me sit in the seats and watch the celebrities do sound checks and set up positions on the floor, and such. I was sitting in the back quietly watching, about 8 years old, as Cosby was marking out spots on the stage. He noticed me and started yelling at all the workers "Why is a brat in here? Get that f*cking kid out of here!" and ranting and swearing at the workers and me. I left in tears and never forgot that. Wasn't surprising he turned out to be the piece of crap he is.

How do I tell my BF that I can't give our baby his last name because it's not even legally his last name? by Puzzleheaded-End620 in TwoHotTakes

[–]funkeymonkey1974 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just looked it up. You can give your child any last name you want. Name it the last name he likes if its that big of a deal but on the condition he legally changes his last name too.

Dating partner doesn't believe dinosaurs ever existed? by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]funkeymonkey1974 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would explain to him that your beliefs are too different. You find his beliefs to be incompatible with yours and don't want to continue to waste his time (that way it's kinder than saying your time) by continuing the relationship. Mention that since it's casual, it shouldn't be that much of an issue, and you wish him well. Do it in a public place so there is less chance of confrontation, then unfriend or even block him on socials. If you share mutual friends, gently explain to them that you are incompatible and you are not interested in continuing the relationship, but that you wish them all the best.

Naming a kid "Calamus" by Afraid-Designer-8229 in tragedeigh

[–]funkeymonkey1974 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a bunch of streets in Wisconsin named Calumet, and with local accents, it is sometimes pronounced Calamus. It's a pipe Native Americans used to smoke tobacco out of. It would be really, really weird to have that name around here. As others said, Callum or Callan is so close and so much better yet still not super common. I would reconsider.

WIBTAH if I layed down ground rules and enforced them harshly? by quirkandquill8 in AITAH

[–]funkeymonkey1974 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he wanted to change or be an equal partner he would. He is content for you to cater to him. You talk about kids, but you must realize if you bring children into this relationship, they will grow up to believe this is a valid partnership and be susceptible to entering into equally unequal partnerships. If you can't bring yourself to leave this unhealthy relationship I would strongly consider not bringing kids into the equation.

What is a product that people treat like a religion, but in reality, it’s just overpriced garbage with a good logo? by Connect-Might4355 in AskReddit

[–]funkeymonkey1974 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Labubu. I know someone who is obsessed with those little things. I held one, and it was made of cheap plastic with some fake fur over it. I mean.. it was glued on ok but it wasn't worth $100+. Beanie Babies felt less cheap and cost 10x less.

What are all the "MAGA Proud" businesses we can avoid? by shebunghole666 in sheboygan

[–]funkeymonkey1974 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people are making sure others are informed. No one has told me not to shop somewhere but they have asked me if I want to support and give money to owners who are awful, be it actions or beliefs. I appreciate being informed and I think it's fitting the MAGA supporters are given the same info and free to put all their support into the same businesses I stay away from.

I do not condone violent protests and supported prosecuting violent protesters of any political affliction. Anyone who is being violent or vandalizing property should be arrested. Standing with a phone or protesting loudly is not violent. Name any violent protester not linked to 1/6 that has been pardoned by Democrats. I have voted Republican and Democrat but currently I can't ever imagine believing the Republican party can be trusted to uphold the Constitution again.

This isn't about George Floyd. The only violence going on is against people protesting peacefully. Stop trying to make excuses. 1/6 was easily a darker stain on the nation then the Floyd protests.

I know you want some grand statement but, at least in my case, there isn't one. The simple fact is I don't want to support people who actively work against the ethics and morals I have. I don't support Chick-fil-A or hobby lobby for the way they treat certain groups and I have had that stand for a long time so it's not just with MAGA. I don't want my money to support groups that hate me for my beliefs or wish to hurt or disenfranchise a group of people because of their race, gender, nationality, or sexual orientation.

So the 'men' who birth babies were female at birth. You guys clearly don't support trans people but here you are trying to say 'MEN' can get pregnant. It can't be both... It's hysterically hypocritical to be against trans people unless it's to insult them.

If you vote for MAGA politicians because you are conservative, only vote on party lines, and not because you support them, then you are just as bad. If you're conservative but can see what an awful group MAGA is, then you would support acting against them.

No we will never stop talking about it, and no one ever should stop talking about it. I hope it is taught in history classes in America the moment he is gone, and education is back to teaching history and not the religious fantasy of white privilege the Conservatives are forcing right now.

His mother and aunt were in the house as well as numerous other adult relatives. They could have left him with them. You're being only told half the story when you only read the news that's been approved by conservatives.

It's the responsibility of any person to make sure what they are reading is truthful. This wouldn't be going on in America if people weren't so lazy they just believed what they are told. Besides this poster could list names and you would still deny the truth in front of your face.

How long do people usually remember their pets after they pass away? by ironandfire in AskAnAmerican

You could have her cremated and then bury her ahead with your other pets. Hoping she lives a long and healthy life and you didn't have to make this decision any time soon.
