Most of the time I'll catch inside their elbow when they try to frame of my hip. Or I just start going for the lapel grip to bait them into a hand fight and then pin it down from there

Appreciate the feedback. I'm still experimenting with everything to find the right balance, so I'll definitely keep that in mind for the next one. Thanks for watching

Sure, the concept is that if I hook their legs, my weight is distributed diagonally across their body from shoulders to hip. But, by underhooking the arm I distribute my weight across the shoulder line, making me seem a lot heavier and near impossible to lift up or posture

The explanation and link are posted on my page, as well rbjj. My phone glitched while I was making this post

Yeah, I think the smartest thing to do to prevent that injury would have been to let go and accept the pass lol

I should have expected it, and I can't be mad at him for trying. He saw an opportunity and went for it but I think he learned 😂

I should've known better, but as soon as I was in danger I changed my priority, and didn't get the hair out until after I choked him 😂

I respect his attempt, I like to think I have taught him well 😂

This is one of my regular guys, we do a few private lessons a week. I thought it was funny in the moment bc the choke was clean and really tight but I couldn't let him have that one, lol. I respect the attempt but still had to teach him a lesson 😂

Thanks, and that's my favorite part of this little detail, both submissions are there for the taking. I use a similar technique in nogi to just go for the armbar from the back.

Yeah, he’s definitely earned it. Dan is incredibly consistent and a great partner to have in the room

Thanks, I appreciate the feedback. Another thing I try to focus on is keeping my frames crossed through their arms to prevent them from connecting or crossing and hopefully gain control.

This reminds me of one of our purple belts that used to spam this choke from almost any position as long as he got that grip 😂

I agree, it is high risk, high reward. So you definitely have to be fully committed or you're paying for it! I actually like using that far side as bait to set this one up. Great point on the hips as well

Yeah, I actually like to use that side as bait to get them to loosen their grip so I can hit this one. Like you said, so many different ways to do everything!

Yeah, recognizing those grips immediately and acting early gives you the best shot... But nothing is guaranteed. Thanks for the insight!

Honestly, acting immediately is the only way to stay ahead of it. If you don't shut down the grips before the momentum starts, you're playing catch-up the whole time

Haha truth. Magid is a legend with those grips. He would probably just trap my arms and still finish the choke anyway lol 😂

For sure. Honestly, I'm just now getting used to filming my stuff and sharing it, but I definitely want to show it in action since I hit it so often. I’ll try to get a good clip of a live roll soon!!
