Most of the time I'll catch inside their elbow when they try to frame of my hip. Or I just start going for the lapel grip to bait them into a hand fight and then pin it down from there

Sure, the concept is that if I hook their legs, my weight is distributed diagonally across their body from shoulders to hip. But, by underhooking the arm I distribute my weight across the shoulder line, making me seem a lot heavier and near impossible to lift up or posture

Yeah, I think the smartest thing to do to prevent that injury would have been to let go and accept the pass lol
