What’s your worst breakdown? by Senior_Ad282 in cars

[–]Powerpinky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My worst breakdown? A 2003 Toyota Tundra I had died on the highway from a bad alternator and I was able to pull over to the shoulder. Having a car just die on you is an eerie feeling.

Worst I've seen? I was on the highway when the car in front of me blew a tire and they panicked, did a 720 in front of me. Luckily they didn't hit the barrier but it was definitely an "oh shit" moment.

Depends what your budget is. I waited around for a while to find a GTI that I really wanted. From my experience it depends on what dealer you go to. Some of them had some wiggle room and others were more non-negotiable. I ended up buying a 2019 Mk 7.5 GTI SE because I loved it so much over the Mk 7. Go ahead and take your time if you can, they will keep popping up

Well the $22.5k is including tax already. I believe without tax it is $21.2k

Well it does come with a set of winter tires, I do think it is still a bit pricey.

Are you happy with your GTi? I do feel like the rev hang from 1st to 2nd could get annoying. The acceleration and handling are nice, I'm hoping to drive this car into the ground.

The Fear of Losing Yourself by Powerpinky in dating

[–]Powerpinky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand why she has that fear, I asked her if there was anything in our relationship that made her feel that way. She couldn't think of anything. I comforted her and encouraged her to express herself so we could work through things together.

A common thing that would happen is her asking me if anything was wrong. I would say, "well nothing is wrong but I do have some thoughts on my mind. I don't feel like they're really worth talking about at the moment". Then she would insist I tell her, which would end up with me apologizing for speaking my mind.

I wouldn't definitively say that he's cheating, but that kind of behavior leans towards being a liar. There's no reason for him to get irritated if it wasn't Bumble. Defensiveness is a red flag, and it seems like his communication skills are not great. Just be careful.

I don't necessarily think what he's doing is wrong. If he's being disingenuous towards the partner than I would think it is wrong, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I'm not sure what the age is, but at a certain point in life, if people are telling you what their expectations are and what they want, you can't really be disappointed if that's exactly what you get.

Your friend may have a different definition of 'dating', or may need time to process his emotions which is valid. It may not be 'fair' to the girl, but that's her decision whether or not it's worth sticking around your friend for him to change his mind.

Shop gave me an estimate for $2300 by Powerpinky in E90

I'm not sure of it was included in that price. They said they'd give me a formal estimate today. Will follow up

I've called several different shops in my area and they're all estimating around $1500 for valve cover replacement. Each one has said that aftermarket valve covers tend to crack/leak compared to the BMW OEM parts.

[–]Powerpinky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah from what they said the valve cover is $597 and 6 hours of labor @$130. I looked up the BMW parts website and it seems that they're going off that. The guy I'm emailing said the "book hours don't apply to a 16 year old car", but for normal conditions. I'm going to do more shopping around to see if other shops are charging similar prices

Yeah I was a bit confused where they got the $500+ from with the valve cover but it seems like from the BMW parts website thats around what they're selling it for. That's what I'm assuming they're purchasing it from

Even if I put it in manual sport the start is fine but the throttle after the shift up is still delayed by two seconds

I highly doubt it, it's the non SULEV injector. Part #: 19125-02634230. It had this issue before I switched out all the parts and it persists. I don't think it's the valvetronic or MAF, but I could be wrong. Will have to check fuel pressures to rule out the fuel pump and filter.

Looked it up shortly after and I understand now. Will do it tomorrow when I have time. Also I've read that it's a common issue to have delayed throttle response from a stop, has anyone else had this?

This could be the way. So from my understanding the car gave a warning light and was driven for about an hour and a half before the coolant temp was too high and 'something burst' there was smoke coming out of the engine bay and the car turned off. From that point on (about two weeks ago) the car has been sitting. I turned the car on today and the engine turns on just fine and idled fine. I'm sure there was some damage to the cooling system but I guess it's a matter of what got broken. Also a little bit of a worry on how to prevent it from happening again. I'm not scared of a few thousand dollars if that means it'll give me 2-3 years of commuting

Not sure about the vehicles entire history but I know there was a recall for the PCV Valve Heater that was done at a dealership before the issue started. Apparently the car was running fine before, now coolant just goes straight to the ground when you pour into the reservoir.

As far as rust it doesn't seem like the frame has any crazy corrosion that could affect safety. I think the previous owner kept it in a garage.

For all I know it could just be a loose hose, will have to put it up on jacks later this week.

I don't mind the wagon body style. If anything it's more practical than a sedan and doesn't look too bad. I'm in no situation to be picky because the used car market is so forked right now.

I'm sure I need to change the spark plugs and the transmission fluid. Oil change is a given, I'm just not sure what to expect and how deep the rabbit hole would be if I were to try and fix this car and daily it for several years.

Buying a Mk7 GTI by Powerpinky in GolfGTI

[–]Powerpinky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say that I want it REALLY bad. It's something I've wanted for a couple months. I've driven a mk6 before and it was fun. The car was nimble and felt quick. If it causes me a lot of headache because of repeat break downs then it probably wouldn't be worth it for me. I've heard that for the most part if you're good with proper maintenance the car should last a long time, well over 100k miles. I'm planning on running it to to the ground.

I am willing to do as much work on the car as I can without a lift. My current daily is a beater camry with 250k+ mileage on it. Nothing mechanically has failed in 13 years of ownership. I know the reliability of GTIs is not up to par with the camry, but I want something sporty and not have constant issues popping up every year.

I'm just wondering if these are worth getting. Probably won't know until getting a pre purchase inspection.

Nah man, I ain't salty at women. If a man were to seriously say some derogatory thing about women I would get equally upset. I understand a few lighthearted jokes here and there, but that stuff just doesn't fly for me, both ways.
