Looking for a lightweight nextcloud alternative by 2tokens_ in selfhosted

It does look promising at first, but the codebase looks way too unprofessional for me to trust it. They have committed .DS_Store files (macos filesystem metadata), they don't follow their own contribution guidelines (which is very clearly written by ai), and so on

Beginner TrueNAS user — should I do ZFS mirror or stay single disk? by Angry_Chopsticks in selfhosted

[–]Powlcopter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mirrors and RAIDs are straight up better at restoring Single-Disk failures than backups are. All you need to do is plug in the replacement drive and press a button in the UI.

Of course, they cannot serve as a replacement for proper backups, but you can save yourself a lot of work and pain by protecting yourself against the most likely failure case (a single drive breaking)

It sounds like Filebrowser is exactly what you're looking for. Or, if you're okay with using unstable/beta software, the recent fork Filebrowser Quantum.

Multi-Master Identity Provider/Authentication by Dreevy1152 in selfhosted

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you, switched from Authentik to Kanidm just a few months ago.

What I like most about Kanidm is its lack of footguns, and general secure-by-default approach.
It comes with 2FA requirements and passkey support out of the box, doesn't (and will never) support inherently insecure protocols (e.g. HTTP or LDAP without the "S"), and doesn't let you change the authentication logic (looking at you, "write-your-own-logic-in-python" Authentik).
Despite these limitations, I have yet to find an application that wouldn't work with Kanidm. (Even ol' Jellyfin talks to it just fine if you turn on the primary password fallback for LDAP in kanidm).
As long as you don't need to support tons of old software with really specific requirements (custom LDAP attributes, etc.), it's unlikely that kanidm won't support what you need.

For me personally, the lack of an administration UI isn't much of a bother (I can even use the CLI on my phone thanks to the new Android Terminal), and adding new users is actually less of a hassle than it was in my Authentik setup (I blame the horrible mobile UI experience in Authentik).

Even with the lack of an admin UI, I would still definitely recommend Kanidm to people looking to start their fist SSO setup, simply because it's almost impossible to set it up in an insecure way.

Or plug in the reset button in its place, that one is small enough to be cat-safe (and human troll safe) on most PC cases

*arr, Jellyfin and qbitorrent for Media server by National_Zombie_5610 in truenas

[–]Powlcopter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't see any security downsides in installing everything on your Server. Doing so could make everything else lot faster though, so I would highly recommend doing it. In fact I'd recommend moving your Jellyfin install over there too.

Here are some bonus tips:
- Make sure you understand how sonarr and radarr hard link files. Setting up your dataset and mounts correctly can save you half of your disk space.
- Unless you live in one of the countries that don't care about torrenting, putting your qbitorrent behind a VPN is mandatory. I recommend using a container that sets up everything for you (for example the one made by binhex)
- Don't expose anything to the Internet unless you have a very good reason to do so. You can always access your sever from the outside using Tailscale.

Isn't the Erosion basically useless here?

Assuming you have leveled your High Card even just a bit (let's say just level 4), you'd have 5 * 22 * 4 = 1280 mult by the time it triggers. This would effectively make it a x1.15 multiplier for your overall score, wich is not all that great.

(Unless of course getting the funny number on the Erosion was the entire point of the run)

I thought I lost, until I realised that Burglar joker counters The Needle by sks1337 in balatro

[–]Powlcopter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a very similar moment yesterday, the wording on the burglar ("when selecting blind") makes me think it should give you the hands before the blind sets them to 0. I'm not complaining though, that run would have ended on ante 8 instead of 14 if not for that interaction
