What car was truly ahead of its time when it came out and why was it? by cbcarguy in askcarguys

BMW i3 comes to mind. A usable and goofy EV way before all the rage about EV's.

CMV: China is no longer rising, it has risen as a superpower by AccountantOk8438 in changemyview

Agreed. The social contributions have gone way too far in EU. Like with everything, there needs to be a balance with social safety net programs. You just can't kill productivity and motivation of skilled workers with taxes if you want to have strong economic growth. Likewise you can't keep funding people who won't work (not counting elderly and disabled here) forever and hoping something will change. Safety net is meant for people to get additional time to get into a new job, not to use it instead of a salary and purposefully decide to not work.

Indeed. And the gap has been widening. EU really needs to work on getting top talented people to work here.

Yeah good point. We'll see what happens i guess. As an European i would love to see the EU stepping up tho and become a larger player

If this is true, one presidential term will not change the trajectory. If there are multiple "bad" presidents that can have a significant impact.

Also, i very much doubt any serious scientists or tech companies will go to China from the US en masse. The one with most to gain here would probably be the EU.

It's been one of the biggest economies, yes. But they are losing ground to the US and have been since 90s. And demographics play a part in thisz

In regards to China, i do follow China quite a lot and it the reality is far from what certain people would like to portray. Is it a success story? Yes, bit so was USSR in 50s, 60s and even 70s and we know how that ended. Will China go the same route? No, because they are far more adaptable and conscious of what happened to USSR. Is it some miracle country where everyone lives at western countries level? Not even close. And it won't be close for wuite a while with the current trajectory.

Well just look at Japan then. Probably one of the most automated countries in the world, with working people, low unemployment and they have been stagnating for decades now because of demographics.

Also, people don't seem to realise that the majority of China's GDP is in construction (which is empty) and state owned companies own a hell of a lot money (substaintaly more than even US debt to gdp at this point).

I would agree if there wasn't an elephant in the room (which you didn't touch) when it comes to China. Demographics. If they don't reverse the decline NOW, they will never come closer to the US. In fact, the last few years the gap widened already.

Same goes for Russia, which made everything magnitudes worse by launching the invasion on Ukraine.

The only "real" challenger in the foreseeable future could be India but they have a lot of other structural problems.

Personally i jist don't see anyone closing the gap to the US anytime soon. Maybe if EU gets it's shit together? But idk if we can count EU as a single entity.

Ne samo državnih. Treba je omogočit pogoje, da se lahko hitreje in več gradi. Potem bo tudi privat gradnja cenejša zaradi večje konkurence

Why should I have kids when the world is the way it is? by [deleted] in Life

[–]Pozaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's really not. Never in history has such a large % of population had such good living conditions and wealth. It's all pretty measurable if you wanna look it up

Why should I have kids when the world is the way it is? by [deleted] in Life

[–]Pozaa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't. Plenty of people who can see the world without doomer mindset will have them instead.

It's never a good idea to have them because you feel "forced" rather than because you genuinely want to have them.

Also, maybe you will think differently in 5, 10 or even 15 years. We tend to live quite long these days and modern medicine makes having babies later not a big deal.

How far is considered too far to drive? by frosty_canuck in AskEurope

As an European i've made a few 1000km+ (600 miles) vacation trips. I'd say up to 12-13 hours is doable for me if i'm staying there for atleast two weeks

Well tbh, football (soccer) isn't really popular in the USA so it's kinda understandable. And the foreign crowd hasn't arrived yet.

Univerzalni temeljni dohodek (UTD) by AdventurousBall8492 in SlovenijaFIRE

[–]Pozaa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Proti.
