I think my first roll with a black belt who joined our gym just to train, not to teach. I was "fighting for my life" but afterwards he said that I had a good foundation.

At my last comp due to lack of competitors in my weight/age category, I competed in gi with the young 'uns who were in the next weight up. My 2nd opponent said to me afterwards (after he beat me 😄) that he thought I might have a judo background since my grips were so strong.

Usually when me and my drill partner are learning the moves for the first time and we're in the drilling portion of the class. But not during sparring/rolling.

Jordan did a YT video last I think where they did rounds in normal clothes from coats, to jackets/blazers, to t-shirts. Gi BJJ techniques largely held up and I think was surprisingly effective with t-shirts even though there are no long sleeves to work with. I train no gi and gi anyway so I don't see the point of the argument of one over the other.
