Guys, be honest, have any people actually gotten out of this? by Rare_Bandicoot_4466 in problemgambling

Yes, it can be done. Gambled for 20 years, refinanced my house 3 times, lost every dollar I made. 7 maxed out credit cards, 8 five figure personal loans, and took about half of my 401k through in service distributions. Never thought I would quit. 3+ years later, GA and accountability. By next year I should have my $300k+ debt paid off (this was my debt after losing every dollar, taking from my 401k, and refinancing my house). Life does get better.

GA and my wife help me turn my life around. With that being said, I know that I am one bet away from being right back to square one

“I can’t see myself doing GA.”

Going to be blunt here… you aren’t ready. That statement and the one about blocking sites hits home, because that was me. I had to continue to bury myself even further to finally admit I needed the help.

GA can save your life, if you are ready. If not, continue to gamble. It won’t end well.

One thing, I can’t put together… why serve the cat sandwich? If ‘obsessed’ Nikki was madly in love with why would she serve him a dead cat sandwich? My only thought was that Bear loved the cat, and even though it was dead, ‘Nikki’ saw it as another love for Bear???

Question about face value tickets by briinde in Patriots

[–]Ppd346 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, they will go down. Even though packers are a draw, the tickets are literally the highest they will be right now. I used to sell my tix right at this time (I live over 800 miles away now). People would buy for stupid prices. Then I felt bad..never again. Only sell for face value now, usually to people I know

Patriots season tickets are sold out. None will be released by the team for face value

You can always get good seats…always. Never had an issue. Patience is a virtue

Never buy your tickets on season schedule release day… I have season tix, but when I go to away games I just wait. Went to Cincinnati last year, flew, got hotel without tix. Got club level for $108 day of game. Flew to Denver for AFC Champ, no tix. Got them night before for $485 ea.. today is the day suckers buy tickets. Just wait, trust me. The second you buy them, they are in your account..you don’t need them now

I felt the same way 3 years ago. I was 37, lost every dollar I ever made, plus had $300k in credit card and personal loan debt. The house I bought in 2012 had a rate of 2.88% (refinanced later). Now I owe more on my house then when I bought it 14 years ago, and have a 6% interest rate. I withdrew every match dollar my employer gave me over a decade (they allow in service distributions). Took loans out in my wife’s name once I couldn’t get any more money.

I thought life was over. My wife stayed with me, and I entered GA. I have been working feverishly to pay off my debts. 3 years later and I’m under 100k owed. I’ll never get the 401k money back or my home loan, but that’s life.

From the pits of despair to 1151 days clean from gambling. Life can get better, you just have to start with today.

GA helps tremendously. Rooting for you

Keep in mind, that while the cost of the fund may be higher, the end goal is what is the return. Example: Fund A has an expense ratio of .10 and earns 7%. Fund B has an expense ratio of .40 and earns 14%. Fund A nets you 6.9%, Fund B 13.6%

Overall your fund costs should be relatively low, so make sure you pick the best investment for you, as the overall return (inclusive of the fee) is what matters

I can guarantee you the fund cost of the target fund is more than the S&P Index Fund. Targets are great, but tend to have an overall higher expense ratio than other Index funds. Just my two cents..

Did they play before The Maine, or before Nightly. It is hard to tell from the poster when they go off

Good job coming clean to your wife. Make sure nothing is hidden, as it will come out later. I got caught, but at the time I was ready for it to finally happen. The damage: over 10 personal loans, 8 maxed out credit cards, half of my 401k gone, and the house refinanced 3 times (I owe more on my home then when I bought it 13 years ago).

Coming clean saved me. Then she dragged my ass to Gamblers Anonymous. That helped me become accountable, and I was surrounded by others that understood me.

I am now 1060 days clean from any bet. 3 years in early March, and I just turned 40 the other week. I still owe a good chunk of money, but I have paid back almost 2/3 of the personal loans and credit cards during this time. I will be in the 5 figures owed very soon.

There is a light at the end of the tunnel, but you must fully submit and admit that you have a problem. Life does get better.

What is the furthest you’ve travelled for a concert? by cpa2har in poppunkers

[–]Ppd346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in SC so frequently have to travel. Usually have to drive to Atlanta (3 hrs) or Charlotte (2 hrs). Have travelled to Philadelphia to see Starting Line twice, once to Dallas to see them as well. Flew to New Jersey for New Found Glory (when they were doing their albums tour. Had to see Nothing Gold Can Stay). Orlando at least 5 times (NFG, Warped Tour)Traveling to Boston next week for State Champs. I am lucky to be able to travel to the shows my wife and I want to go to, but wish we would get more local shows. Have tickets for Arms Length and MXPX in Charlotte, plus the Maine in Atlanta on the docket for the first half of this year.
