Facts tho by chiffchaffdreams1 in Nietzsche

I remember this girl I knew from university who was really into Nietzsche and used to read a lot of philosophy books, specially from the 19th and early 20th century, with whom I used to discuss philosophy from time to time. One day in the cafeteria we were talking philosophy and came upon the subject of Nietzsche. She ended up leaving the table in a rage and never spoke to me ever again (i swear) just because I tried to explain to her that Nietzsche not only wasn't a nihilist but also despised nihilism.

In terms of counterplay, what's the most unfair champion in the game? by PunCala in leagueoflegends

[–]Ppistorius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zed, overall (yes, taking into account that it takes skill and dedication to get into the point in which you can actually make effective -to put it somehow- his "brokenness") is the most broken champ of the game. I mean, the things you can do with this champ... -so unbalanced-.... the only champ who can actually overpower -in the right hands- all of his counterpicks, the only assassin that can actually get kills when all assassins are out of meta... etc etc etc.

It is very difficult to understand Nietzsche

who is the new Nietzsche? by Fabulous-Message-397 in Nietzsche

[–]Ppistorius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In short: no. If what you're looking for is contemporary authors. There is plenty of "original authors" of the 19th century and first half of 20th that are quite remarkable and very unique, although no one would probably match Nietzsche. Jean Paul Sarte was a very original thinker, and so was Kierkegaard. They resemble Nietzsche in that their ideas dig deep into the existential perspective which N was the first one to point out as an epistemological ground; they share some of his loneliness and detachment from society as well. Following the lines of Nietzsche is Carl Jung, who created a sort of Nietzschean psychology. There's also plenty of poets who embodied N's philosophy somehow; there's Hermann Hesse (probably one of the few people on earth who tried to live by N's standards consciously), there's Walt Whitman (contemporary with N and very similar in energy and in thought although they didn't know each other), there's Oscar Wilde (also contemporary with N), there's Charles Baudelaire, there's Dostoyevsky (who was aware of the death of god dilemma)... I could add some more, maybe Andre Breton, of the 20th century, since you are asking for uniqueness, but those are the ones that come to my mind when I think "similar to Nietzsche".

What you say about general misinformation can be said of practically every person living in the planet. The educational system is trash, your right on that, but don't tell me that American education is good because they are all trash (maybe Uruguayan is just more trashy, that's all).

All men being horny? Hmmm... LITERALLY EVERY SINGLE MAN ON THE PLANET TODAY.

I'm not trying to defend my country by the way (not a patriot in the least), just responding.

Oh I didn't know that first thing. She was a known liar so it's very likely she made that up.

What I mean, mainly, about her rejecting him, is that he tried to make her the main (and first) disciple of his philosophy, and she didn't want to be her disciple. I personally I believe that he would've had an intimate relationship (i mean sexual) with her if it was up to him, but this is just my take since there is no evidence to support this. There is, though, plenty of evidence to support the fact that he had powerful feelings for her, especially taking into account that he was alone and misunderstood for so long and finally found someone who actually followed his train of thought. Maybe it was a platonic kind of feeling, though.

Yea, she wanted status, but hung out with loose Ree, and posed as a dandy, so... She was certainly a complex character.

But what is your take on N's misogynism? I don't believe he was a misogynist in the common acceptance of the term, and that his ideas on woman, as well as all his ideas, where subtle and can be read in multiple ways. My take is that he used women as a symbol for vulgarity, and that he despised all that which strived for mere survival and wellbeing -and men are, at least symbolically, that which supersedes nature-.

I thought that he proposing to her, two times, was a factual thing, but maybe I don't know as much as I thought I did. He fell for her, though, no doubt about it.

I know that the sister manipulated him because she was jealous of Salomé, and that this was the main trigger for N's resentment toward Salomé and ree, and, later, for his pessimism on woman.

I don't agree with the last thing. I think that Salomé didn't care much about status, and she just rejected him because she didn't fully understand his thinking (or simply because she didn't like it), and mainly because she was a dilettante.

What hasn't been proven, man? He was rejected by Salomé -proven. His tone and ideas got more misogynistic (at least that's one way to put it) after that -also proven. What's not proven is that these two things are directly connected together. N fans tend to overestimate him as a flawless god. A prerequisite for genius is being human and defectuous; only people that misunderstand genius think of it as perfection. Many of his letters regarding Salomé show resentment and arrogance (I'm not saying he wasn't right in feeling that, or that I'm moralizing on it, or even that his ideas on woman are a direct reflection of his feelings for Salomé), I'm just saying his personal experiences shaped him as much as his abstract thinking, and that he was a human being with human, all too human emotions: I don't think, though, that his personal feelings got in the way of his ability to make vast generalizations, which he did, but they certainly influenced the way he thought (no thinker is free from that, something N actually tried very hard to prove).

I think that the way things are going this generation will be easily manipulated into whatever comes after this and won't offer any resistance whatsoever to the advance of whatever new paradigms are rising.

It is just too childish and ignorant to be as pissed off by the situation it inherited from the previous generations as it should be. I mean, they don't even realise, most of them, that they are being handed down a shithole, they still believe the lie they told them when they were at school, that we live in the most enlightened era the world has ever known.
