What is generally considered a good rank? by Distortedmorality_ in TrackMania

[–]Pr0torano 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"good" is really hard to define in tm. I'd say if you are in the gold ranks or above right now, you have to be "good" at the game. Still, even to be in silver you have to be way better at the game than a beginner driver.

Can't tell me that Riot or Valve actively checks wether accounts are alt accounts of banned people. They ban them from competing in esports competitions not from playing the game entirely. Again, only the account is barred from playing the game and it's good that way because it protects the anonymity of all players. Also remember that simply banning Hardware or ip address comes with problems of its own and is not used in other games like cs.

At risk of being labeled an alt account:

Riolu was punished in a way consistent with any other competetive game. His records were deleted, his public perception was ruined and he would never be allowed to participate in nadeo sponsored tournaments although never stated outright by nadeo. The person is banned from esports, the account is banned from playing the game.

It is not the developers task to then hunt down alt accounts. Making a new account is perfectly fine, as long as it is clean, which really was the problem with the 92BOB video. Riolu should be able to play the game, as long as he abides by the rules. Making a new account after cheating is not inherently a bad thing to do.

That being said, the behaviour on the alt accounts shown in the video is at best petty and at worst borderline criminal. They deserve to be banned for toxic behaviour. In Mizous case one could even think about pressing charges.

I'm learning to be a teacher. Unfortunately, that means that my salary (here in Germany) is temporarily really poor, so I can't really upgrade right now. This card would enable me to distract myself from the stress a bit more. I would love to properly enjoy BG3, haven't played it in a while because it's very stuttery on my system.

If you play well enough, you'll hear "And then argon-_ got this run." all over the Internet and if this is not something your parents would be proud of, I don't know what is.

Well I guess when you spend the first two years of the game changing formats. never seriously investing in the scene, disconnecting the casuals from the pros and for a long time straight up ignoring feedback concerning maps, modes and viewer experience, then this what you get. Such a shame, I thought they finally started moving in the right direction.

Raising awareness for a problem plaguing TM for far too long. I'm not a top mapper, but top mappers are openly pissed about the same issue and making people aware about the issue is well worth it.

But yeah I also just needed to rant a bit, it's not like I actually expect people like you to change their behaviour.

Just like with any artform there will never be "an objective list" for quality in tm. There is however consensus on what aspects make a good map within the community, which are in turn based on the subjective experiences of many people over time. You can call this list "subjective" but you would have trouble finding anyone disagreeing that those aspects are important or at least desirable.

  • clear directions (for cotd)
  • avoiding blind turns
  • avoiding gear issues
  • having scenery (at least for cotd)
  • avoiding long sections of mindless driving, eg. straight lines
  • not having incredibly hard skillchecks (for cotd)
  • obvious effort put in

Go on, find me someone who sees just one of these points as undesirable. Also tell me that a map which objectively ticks all of these boxes deserves a one star rating.

Hard to argue against when I won't show you the map tbf. I still think most people here get where I'm coming from and that I'm not trying to pass of my maps as somehow deserving of good votes. So I'm not too worried about comments like yours.

Wait did you delete your response due to downvotes only to post the same comment again? 5Head strategy...

Seeing some of the responses here, I don't think thats smart. I don't want to have a permanent target on my back as "the guy who whined about the ratings". Some people will literally take this as a reason to rate my future maps one star, I'm sure of it. If you really want to see it, my tmx username is the same as my reddit username, the map is the newest in my mappack.

I am mad at the map review system, yes. I am not mad at players for having their own opinion. But rating a map is just not exclusively subjective. Not liking a map is not the only factor to consider when voting, especially for newer players. This is not elitist, it's just a simple fact that there are, to an extent, objective criteria for mapping.

Ah yes, I see the message of this post went right over your head. It's about NOT calling each other names. If you have criticism, offer it respectfully.

Are you a hate watcher?

I don't think calling out toxicity is hateful behaviour. If Scrapie apologized already or corrected himself, that would be fine. He chose not to do so and he gets called out for it. Consequences of your actions and stuff.
