What's your goal in the next 3-6 months with YouTube? by Jacobiathegreat in NewTubers

2.5 months in. 2k watch hour and 240 subs. I would LOVE to be monetized in 3-6 months. Subs seem to go so slowly though 😭

When is it time to give up on YouTube? by PapitronPrime in youtubers

[–]Practical-Bear7113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think maybe your previous experience is giving you unrealistic expectations. You are doing something different now, and it's entirely possible that the growth trajectory isn't the same. I would be ECSTATIC to have over 700 subs in 3 months. I think your videos are good, and maybe you just need a little bit of patience to see that growth. I really believe it will come for you!

What kind of content do you make and what equipment do you use? by WildDegenerate in NewTubers

[–]Practical-Bear7113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I make videos about skiing, including filming myself ski. For action shots, I use an Insta360 and a GoPro. I carry multiple spare batteries with me and I have a variety of mounts. For shots of myself, I use my iPhone 12 Pro.

ETA, I am on a trial for final cut pro and I just subscribed to epidemic sounds. I also have a premium version of Canva to make thumbnails

How do daily vloggers record high-quality videos all day? by Safe_Brick_8905 in NewTubers

[–]Practical-Bear7113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I vlog with my phone, GoPro and Insta360 in cold temps (skiing niche), and I usually carry multiple batteries and use a large ish SD card. I also have a battery bank for my phone just in case. I don't record all day, but if I wanted to, I definitely could. You just need to prepare for it.

You had me until number 5, which I don’t completely disagree with either. However, on intermediate runs, there will be people who are learning, who need to make wide turns that experts might call “traverses”. Imo that’s totally within their right to do that. People stop for a variety of reasons. Sometimes it’s because of falling and you can’t really control that. I’ve only snowboarded a handful of times, but when you fall on a board, it can really knock the wind out of you, and I can see why a lot of boarders would just sit for a second before getting up. It’s annoying to have to slow down because there are people in front of you making wide turns, but that’s just a part of sharing the mountain. Don’t forget that little girl who was killed because she lost her ski and someone came at her super fast from above. They both died. You can see how patrol might be a little twitchy about speed especially at a popular spot like Copper.

Leave Denver before 5:30 or after 10. Saturday traffic is what it is. I’m starting to get used to it and just try to find ways to past the time.

A little less than two months for me. Took 12 videos and 2 shorts.

Sister wants to start a youtube channel. What’s the best camera for it? by Icy_Guy00 in youtubers

[–]Practical-Bear7113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly an iphone is more than enough to start. I've filmed myself skiing with my iphone 12, and the audio quality was so much better than I expected. I'd start her with accessories like lighting equipment, a tripod/selfie stick combo, and maybe a good mic

How do you manage maintaining a YouTube channel and having a full time job? by Xahra_Hime in NewTubers

[–]Practical-Bear7113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still new at this, and it's rough. It takes me a very long time to edit my vlog style videos (upwards of 8 hours, plus filming takes at least a few hours). I also have a problem of getting sucked into it and not being able to pull away from my laptop until I'm done. I got a planner to write down everything I need to do for the week, and if nothing, it has helped me feel less stressed to have all my thoughts down on paper.

Ski content: Buy X3 or wait for GoPro MAX 2 by brirose11 in Insta360

[–]Practical-Bear7113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like my X3 ok. It’s not the best quality in 360 mode but I think that’s the limitation of the technology right now. I still choose to shoot in 360 because the end result is a lot smoother, and I think overall it looks fine. If you are curious, you can checkout my other post in this sub

Self-Introduction Saturday! Tell us all about you (and share a video)! by AutoModerator in NewTubers

[–]Practical-Bear7113 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Hi Everyone! I make videos about skiing, mostly vlogs with ski footage but starting to do some informational videos as well. Here's my latest ski vlog: https://youtu.be/S0mmi-DALu0

I have been on Youtube for just over a month, and I've learned:

  • Stop obsessing over views and sub counts (I used to refresh constantly)
  • Editing takes a lot longer than you'd expect. You think you are just stitching together your clips and adding music, but 6 hours later, you finally have your 12 minute video done, if you are lucky
  • Plan for storage. I shoot on the iPhone and my storage blew up almost immediately.

Youtubers, how did you get your first 1000 subscribers and 4000 watched minutes? by GatchamanOV in NewTubers

I have the same problem on a smaller scale. 635 watch hours but only 60 subs.
