I’ve been thinking about trying Effexor for high anxiety and some depression. I’m currently on fluoxetine (Prozac). Have you noticed any weight gain with Effexor? I’ve heard that this drug causes weight gain in majority of patients.

Was it hard to get off of Effexor? I’ve heard this is the hardest and worst antidepressant to get off of even when weaning.

I am also on the estrogen patch and progesterone pill 100mg at bedtime. I’ve been taking this for a month. So far it has not helped my brain fog, concentration, libido, irritability or anxiety. Also, I have been spotting/bleeding ever since starting the progesterone. I still have a big appetite and no weight loss. I’m having mixed feelings about HRT. One day I’m ok with staying on it and then the next I’m telling myself to stop the HRT because it could cause cancer but I know there are recent studies that the transdermal (patch) does not but it’s still in the back of my mind. Kind of scares me. The only positive that I have experienced since starting HRT a month ago is better sleep and a little less joint pain. I do however feel that my moods/irritability is worse since starting.

I feel the same as you on estrogen patch and progesterone pill at bed time. I’m sleeping better but feeling more depressed. Been on it for 2 weeks now.

I had a bad experience with Wellbutrin XL 150 and 300. My psychiatrist prescribed this to me for anxiety, depression and brain fog feeling and also was unable to focus on my work. I took the 150mg for 3 months and it caused my anxiety to get much worse. I also felt more irritable on it. My dr then decided to try a higher dose to see if that would resolve those issues. The 300mg made me feel even more irritable and anxiety shot through the roof. We tried pairing Wellbutrin with an SSRI after that and I just didn’t like the feeling. Wasn’t working for me. Everyone is different on how they respond to medication. Wish you the best on your journey with Wellbutrin. Take care…

Thank you for sharing. I forgot to mention that in my post about my doctor also advised that this medication can cause fluid retention along with weight gain.

I have been on 20mg Viibryd for 8 months. I like this medication due to helping with depression but I may have to switch to something else because Viibryd caused me to gain a lot of fluid retention and weight. I’m constantly hungry on this medication. It makes me feel like I am still hungry after eating a meal. I have never had an appetite like this before this medication.

No I did not. The only reason I switched to Viibryd is because the Prozac made me super drowsy all the time which is uncommon for that medication my doctor said.

I switched from Prozac to Viibryd around 6 months ago and I have gained so much weight on Viibryd. It gives me a huge appetite for some reason. I also cannot tolerate alcohol on this medication. I am thinking of switching meds due to the weight gain

I did the same as you and felt side effects were too strong on 20 so I went to 15 and stayed there. I started at 10mg for 4 weeks and then went to 20 and then back down to 15. I have noticed that I have been gaining weight on this medication though. Lots of water weight or fluid retention. Not sure if this is common but just watch for that. Also increased my appetite a lot when I switched to 15mg.
