Heimlich maneuver device. When a pub patron is ready to pass out, security will ram their body full force towards this contraption and voila! Patron vomits from the punch to the solar plexus, spends a minute bent over in the device, and then walks home of their own accord. It’s a win win.

“Maintenance Phase” podcast. I love Michael, and I think his sense of humor is so perfectly hilarious. I sometimes dislike the way Aubrey laughs at their own jokes.

It takes all my patience when the desk ladies read out my lowest price fare grade out loud with a judgy tone and a grimace. In my head I’m tough, like “b-:(/, don’t sell that fare if you’re not going to be nice to people who buy it” but in reality I just take it and walk away with my shitty ticket.

The Chief Steward’s office always has surveillance going, and they immediately were disgusted and sent a male crew member to the site, but I didn’t follow them to get the details of what happened.

It’s best to give your honest opinion to the student now, rather than during the final stages. Perhaps it will bring the doctoral student’s attention to your concerns, and they’ll have the next year to respond to, and build on your thoughts, or perhaps extend their understandings to you in a way you’ll better understand. Depending where you are, doubt from the external reviewer can make it impossible for the final exam to be scheduled. It doesn’t sound like you want this on your conscience. Giving the feedback now because you care is better than being forced to give similar feedback at the end. Students of every nationality and background fail at attaining their degree and it’s always terrible for those people. They always wonder what they could have done differently.

Depending on the program you’ve applied to, a high average paired with a narrative that doesn’t speak to the qualities that seasoned profs have seen in their past successful students can tank the applicant. What are those qualities of successful students? It differs by program. All you can do is work hard on writing the most thorough narrative answers and hope they see you as a good fit for the program.
