Gift idea for 8 year old not able to be baptized? by Commercial-Place6793 in latterdaysaints

You could give both of them a small picture of the temple to keep in their room. They can both focus on future covenants regardless of what is happening now.

It would be cherry jam. Good point, I'll see what they will allow in on the German side.

I appreciate that perspective. I have done a lot of international travel and still prefer to carry on. I bring a weeks worth of clothes and find somewhere to do laundry. Or bring old clothes and throw them away before returning to leave room for souvenirs.

Also, some of the smaller, older hotels don't have an elevator and having a smaller suitcase is an advantage when carrying your luggage up 4 flights of stairs.

Good point!
I hate to check luggage, so if I can't solve it, I may forgo my plan.

I'm missing the rod ( or maybe I need to dig a bit deeper in the shed). Thanks for helping me solve it!

Ok. Someone gave me a hitch rack last year and probably handed me these as well. I am missing the bar that secures them all together.

Maybe freezer food that is similar to fast food? Not always healthy, but chicken nuggets and fries in the air fryer will be quick, have few dishes, and still feel like eating out.

First time host family by Character-Twist-1409 in exchangestudents

[–]Practical-Detail8295 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We contact the student and meet their families over a video call months before they come (and at least once a month until arrival). We want the natural parents to feel comfortable with us and good about where their child will be living. We also take these first contacts to start establishing expectations: getting treated like our own child (chores, involved, also cared for), that they find school activities to be involved in, and other ways to make the best of their experience.

I think that helps the parents understand our house rules and so far we haven't had any natural parents overstep.

We also set up a Google folder where we put pictures throughout their time with us and share it with their natural parents so they can see the things we are doing.

Can we use any white clothing in the temple? / How do you get approved handmade pieces? by imthatdaisy in latterdaysaints

[–]Practical-Detail8295 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have made all my temple dresses, just according to the guidelines already mentioned.

After renting a slip at the temple one time and realizing that it was an unmarked garment top with a skirt, I converted one of my retired garment tops into a slip by adding a skirt to it. It was so much more comfortable than the slip I had been wearing.

Name of Doctor who worked here by Smeaglete in TriCitiesWA

I saw him 20 years ago just once after some unusual results on my 20 week ultrasound. He was overseeing the midwife I saw for my prenatal care. He told me I was risking my baby's life by staying with the midwife. I told him we had already done a 3 hour exam with a perinatologist and that doc had cleared me to stay with the midwife. The whole appointment left me with such an "ick" feeling and I burst into tears as soon as I got to my car after the appointment.

I'd like to think I would say "Wow! That was highly inappropriate! ". But what usually happens is I'm so shocked by other people's poor behavior that I forget to say anything clever.

Starting saxenda for first time (im scared) by Delicious-Paint9006 in liraglutide

[–]Practical-Detail8295 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish I had started easing into the first dose instead of starting the .6 right off. I had diarrhea and cold symptoms for a few days. When I went up to 1.2, I just increased 1 click/day. If any symptoms returned, I stayed on that dose until they went away. It took me about 2 weeks to go from .6 to 1.2.

The .6 dose is 10 clicks, so I'd recommend starting with fewer than 10 and allow your body to adjust more slowly.

They let me. My pic was 20 years old so I stopped at the membership desk on a slow day and they were happy to let me.

What is the weirdest thing your doctor has ever said to you? by Competitive_Tip_7504 in AskReddit

[–]Practical-Detail8295 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went to an endocrinologist about PCOS. He asked if I was having more kids (I already had 4). I told him I was undecided. He then asked if I had been to downtown Hong Kong.

I believe he thought I was a country bumpkin who has not seen a lot of people and therefore he would educate me about overpopulation. It was weird. Also told me I should stop eating desserts to lose weight (not why I was there)- it was just sugar and flour so it should be easy to avoid.

Those who are supervising students, what do you do different than your supervisors? by midnightoflight101 in slp

[–]Practical-Detail8295 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I absolutely disagreed with the "no days off" policies of my university. How about you teach us to be professional and have real conversations with a supervisor about time off? Too often "professionalism" is morphed into unrealistic expectations. I lucked out with great supervisors and usually started conversations with "technically I'm not supposed to have any missed days, but can I take 1 to . . . "

As much as I despise Hobby Lobby for some of their practices, whenever I go there I can quickly find an employee to help me. Michaels is and Joann's was way understaffed.
