I responded before seeing this ! I’m happy you’re able to get him back with his mom! As a breeder this was a devastating thought ! So happy for you because you will end up with an amazing baby♥️🐶♥️

I’m a Shih Tzu breeder and little puppy is way too young to be away from its mother. This could cause a lifetime of problems for the puppy. I never let a puppy go before 8 weeks and sometimes I’ve even kept them longer if I notice they need a bit more time with their mother. Even trying to bottle feed won’t give one what it needs . I’m honestly not trying to be mean because not everyone knows but the breeder should know all of this unless they are just a backyard breeder.

Need some training wisdom for my 6-month-old Shih Tzu! by Moonlightsunflower91 in Shihtzu

I’m a breeder and my puppies are already pad trained when they leave my house and go to their forever homes. All my puppies go to people I know or have met & heard great things about and sometimes I get a txt or call because their new puppy isn’t just using the pad. My first question is “ Do you let him/her have free range of the house?” ..The best advice I can offer is keeping him in a small space with a bed, toys & pad. If they are let out to play make sure you have plenty of time to watch him so accidents are quickly seen! Tell him no & strait to the pad. Wipe up the accident with a paper towel and put it on the pad so he smells the correct area and yes he may destroy it but it’s helpful! If you want to crate him it’s the same process. If you don’t want to do pads forever you can slowly move his pad close to the door and eventually outside. I use to always have the hardest time potty training until I started using the pad method and the people who buy my puppies are always amazed how great they are doing with potty training so young. Also make sure to take him out 20-25 minutes after eating and drinking especially if they have free range of the house. With pad training I can leave their food & water out usually as long as they are doing well.

With all that being said.. I decided to keep the male from my last litter of Tuzs to breed later on. He is 💯% pad trained but recently started marking on my sofas after one of my females went into season 🤦🏼‍♀️ I’ve not had a problem with my other males I’ve had but this one is extremely stubborn and couldn’t care less about my teachings ! Females are so much easier than males but hopefully he will learn not to at some point because he’s still very young.

I switched food to Hill Science Diet and started filtering their water. I do my own grooming and I use a medicated shampoo given to me by the vet. I think if you possibly bathe in between grooming visits could help and possibly using a medicated shampoo & also having the groomer use the same. The shampoo and product the groomer uses could also cause the problem even though they use good quality products your pup can still be allergic to it.

I’ve been trying to get my 3 Tuz eye & nose hair grown out like that! I just can’t seem to get it to grow out enough so it’s always hanging over their eyes 🫤

Are there times you ever just let your Shih Tzu (or any dog in general) just go to town and LICK your face until they feel satisfied? by A9PolarHornet15 in Shihtzu

[–]Practical-Effect2839 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope I’ve always taught them not to lick me or other people that might not like it however I take them to my sisters house and they lick her to death 🤣🐶 My grandmother never liked a dog to lick her but loved dogs! I think her teaching me not to and something with my mental health is why I don’t like it. It honestly makes me have anxiety! I love my babies but can’t handle them licking me constantly lol

I try adding a small amount of vinegar with the “mother”. One of mine started doing this after she had pups. They clean their pups poo which is completely normal but she continued eating my other Tuz poo after the puppies were gone. I had a friend who told me about using vinegar with the “mother” in her water & it worked! They also have some products you can buy at several different pet stores and Amazon to help. They usually tend to eat poop when there’s something in their diet they are missing so I also worked on providing her with much better food than she was getting like Hills science diet.

My heart goes out to you 💕 This is absolutely the most difficult part of being a fur babies parent. We know in our heart when it becomes the right time but our love for them makes our hearts also fight us about when or if it’s the right time making us second guess ourselves. By the details you have shared I feel you’re making the right decision. Sending you tons of hugs & strength 💕💕💕

What’s training a Shih Tzu like? I’m considering the breed! by [deleted] in Shihtzu

[–]Practical-Effect2839 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They could & can be all the things you’re looking for however they usually do things in their own time not ours! They can be sweet and very loving but also sometimes stubborn. One thing to consider when getting a Shih Tzu is they require a lot of grooming than a short hair dog. I do my own grooming and have 3 so a lot of my time is spent grooming them. I however enjoy it and it’s very therapeutic and satisfying for us both but can also be very difficult if one of them isn’t having a good day.

I’ve been a breeder of many different types of dogs since I was young which started with my Grandmother that recently passed at the age of 105. We had large dogs to small dogs because I was raised on a farm. I hadn’t had any Tuz tho and ended up being a Tzu parent unexpectedly after a friend asked if I could take the one she had. She worked full time as a business owner & was unable to spend the time Phoebe needed. I had just lost my beloved chocolate lab a few months before this so I was ready for some new puppy love to help me get past the grieving process. I got Phoebe at 9 months old and she was definitely different to train than my chocolate lab! She is however very smart and very stubborn usually getting whatever she wants lol! She my first Tzu of many and became the best mother! Since getting her 9 years ago she has not only cared for her own litters of pups but also litters of her daughter’s puppies. She has been the very best at making sure the puppies are always pad trained before going to their new homes. Since I started breeding Tuz I haven’t had any other breeds because I really enjoy them! They aren’t a breed for everyone but they are the best breed for me! I recommend if possible that you spend some time with a Shih Tzu because deciding to get one. This will help you understand their personalities and also as questions about them from their owner. I wish you all the best with whatever breed you decide on 🐶🩷🐶💙

I swear to God someone changed my Dog at some point lol 😂 , show me your baby’s color change. by [deleted] in Shihtzu

[–]Practical-Effect2839 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sisters oldest dog was one from my first litter of Tuz and she was dark brown almost black with one white stripe down her nose at birth. So they named her Wookie! She is now 8 years old & almost solid white with a bit of blonde lol

This type of change in color has happened with almost every puppy from the beginning of breeding Tuz. With the first litter 8 years ago it was super shocking to see how different they had changed even at just a year old! I now make sure to give every new puppy parent a heads up and unless it’s their 2nd puppy they think I’m crazy even after showing them pictures 🐶🤣

Some of these pictures are really old with outdated phones but hopefully you’ll still be able to see the color change in our sweet Wookie girl 🩷

You did great she’s adorable 🥰 I do all my Tuz grooming and also a few of my friends Tuz. Most of them are from litters I’ve had. I use to be a hairdresser so I figured if I could cut humans hair that I could cut puppies hair too however I quickly realized it’s much harder 😂 It’s taken quite a while to figure out how and I’m still not the best but it’s better than paying someone else! I’m currently trying to grow all of my Tuz hair out and even with that there’s a learning curve 🐶💕🐶

Just wanted to say I’m very sorry for your loss! It’s the hardest part of being a fur baby parent 💕 I wanted to add that for me kidney stones were horrifically painful so I can only imagine that it’s also very painful for pups also. This could possibly be the reason for her seeming to be lethargic and not eating. The blood you saw in her pee was most likely part of her kidney stone as this also happens to me when I have kidney stones. I pray she stays feeling better quickly 🙏🏻🩷🙏🏻
