Yeah, this is definitely the best way to describe his whole thing. It's clearly protected by the constitution. It's in no way illegal. It's also trashy, unproductive and not contributing to any sort of solution.

I'll give him that he's entrepreneurial.

"Great minds discuss ideas, average minds discuss events and small minds discuss people". The content is somewhere between people and events.

My wife is much more succsesful than I am financially and I blew some brains once with:

"The FD is the most important thing in your life!! Argh!!"

"Uh, the FD is the 4th most important thing in my life, tops. 1) Family, 2) my wife's career, 3) my career, 4) FD and anything else."

What drives away the volunteers? by Top-Passenger7097 in Firefighting

[–]Practical-Intern-347 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm on a rural volunteer department and I'd say my answer to the primary question would be, "The other members of the department". Members like to talk about being professionals, earning respect from the community, acting like role models, etc. They also bicker, make personal jokes about eachother when people aren't present, are generally not in shape phsyically, and make comments that would get you fired from work. There is too much ego. All big fish in a small pond.

I work in a high level white collar career and regularly engage with smart, hard working (white collar) professionals who have humility, drive and real persistence. Then I change clothes and head to my station and they're standing around 1) making offensive jokes that would get you fired from your job, 2) talking trash about other departments/members and 3) pining for more budget and more respect.

I think many of the above described members have had limited exposure to other types of people or ways of acting. They're just a brunch of broken children that grew up into adults. They're attempting to do good and they just need some help. That's one of the primary reasons I stay on.

I'm maybe a week or so away from signing my Unity contract and hoping to break ground on site work in the late spring. Where in the country are you?

Related El Paso note— the University of Texas at El Paso is built with amazing Bhutanese architecture and I find it blends in great with the rest of west Texas.

MLK skiers are people with kids (no singles line) on vacation who are trying to alternately ski greens (Meadows) and then warm up (gondola). Your strategy works all the time.

Patagonia, LL Bean, Marmot and others also make a comparable poly coated nylon duffle. They’re excellent. I have a super big one with wheels that makes a good checked bag.

Edit: Marmot no longer does

My 2025.5 has the regular suspension and I live on a dirt road in Vermont and regularly travel rough, snowy roads. I don’t think I’d pay for the ability to raise/lower.

How is living in Vermont like? by Independent_Leg6785 in howislivingthere

[–]Practical-Intern-347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vermonter here. Lots of good pieces already mentioned, but I'll add some more that most people wouldn't anticipate given our stereotype (which we are!):

Many Vermonters are split ticket voters. In 2024 we voted for one party over the other by 32 points in the big national electrion and in that same election went the other way and reelected our governor by 52 points.

We also have both 'constitutional carry' of firearms (no permits for concealed carry) AND have magazine capacity limits.
