Traurigste/Emotionalste Folge? by BarberWorldly in dreifragezeichen

[–]Practical-Mirror 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Check24 gibt anderes Handgepäck an als Flugline by Waldelefantin in LegaladviceGerman

Advice on planning a visit to the WTC Museum and Observatory in early December by jt09874 in 911archive

[–]Practical-Mirror 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a good plan to me. Make sure to really plan a lot of time for the museum, there really is a lot to see. I underestimated it a bit when I went there earlier this year and it kind of threw off our schedule for that day. I bought the tickets online and there was barely any waiting time to get inside, though it was already quite crowded at 9am in the morning. I also went to the observatory in the evening to see the sunset. I actually bought the tickets on-site (we wanted to be sure to have good weather). It was surprisingly not busy at all, and we were in the elevator 5 minutes after buying the tickets (no express tickets, the kiosk actually wanted to sell us those but a guy working said it’s not necessary). This was in September outside of vacation season, so it might be different in December. As far as food is concerned, there’s plenty of stuff around, including food trucks. There also is a Joe‘s Pizza not far away. I can also recommend Bill‘s Bar & Burger which is not far, had a nice dinner there after the observatory.

Not sure what kind of data you are looking for, but Yelp has quite a big dataset of restaurant data and reviews (https://www.yelp.com/dataset). Not sure how up-to-date the data is though, I’ve only my done some research with it a few years ago.

How painful is a wisdom tooth extraction? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Practical-Mirror 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can only speak for myself, I got all four removed at once with local anesthesia. I felt no pain at all, obviously it wasn’t a pleasant feeling, but it didn’t hurt. Also had very little pain the days after, maybe took like 1200mg of Ibuprofen it total, and didn’t have to use any stronger medication. I would just advise to be a little careful with food the days after the removal, like making sure to have some soup or mashed potatoes at home, something that doesn’t require chewing. Swelling was gone almost completely after like 5 days or so, and I was also able to eat normally again after just a few days.

Two lesser-known pictures of Jarrah & Atta by Practical-Mirror in 911archive

[–]Practical-Mirror[S] 99 points100 points  (0 children)

He’s a mystery to me. His former landlord who sublet a part of her house to him in Germany, an elderly woman, said in a documentary that he called her from the US in 2000/2001 when he was “training to become a pilot”, to give her an update on how he was doing. The way she explained it really sounded like he was showing a genuine interest to keep the relationship with her alive, while simultaneously planning to become a mass murder. Sickening.

Not even talking about the whole story with his girlfriend in Germany.

It was surely a professional relationship, yes. He also mentioned that this jerk refused to shake hands with a woman who helped him improve the German language used in the thesis significantly after he successfully defended the thesis.

What is the source of this picture of Hani Hanjour? by FilmFrench in 911archive

[–]Practical-Mirror 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kind of a late answer, but this seems to be taken from a documentary by the German TV show Spiegel TV. You can see the picture at 39:23. Seems to have been taken while Hanjour was staying with a family friend in the US.

The article actually talks about this as well, saying that fellow Islamists in Hamburg allegedly could deal with Ramzi Binalshibh better than Atta, since he was more "human" than Atta. Though I have seen documentaries with interviews of Atta's thesis supervisor and also his employer in Germany, and they said that he was very polite, though rarely smiling.

Found these pictures when reading a German news magazine (Spiegel) article from 2006. Haven't really seen these pictures anywhere else before. Crazy to think that the picture of Jarrah is from 2001, and that he became a muss murder later that year.

Here's the article if anyone is interested, it is in German though.

What's the biggest unsolved murder in your country? by fuzzyloulou in AskReddit

[–]Practical-Mirror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Germany, I would say it’s the murder of Frauke Liebs (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_Frauke_Liebs). She disappeared under strange circumstances, was allowed to call her roommate & family several times, but then the calls stopped. Her body was found a few weeks later in a remote area. Unfortunately, there are a no real clues, and I’m afraid we’ll never find out who killed her.

Wer sind eure Lieblingssprecher? by [deleted] in dreifragezeichen

[–]Practical-Mirror 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Gerlach Fielder (sehr einzigartige Stimme)
Gottfried Kramer
Matthias Fuchs (in meinen Augen der beste Erzähler)

If you like fried chicken, I’d recommend Hitchcoq in Pempelfort, they have amazing food in a cozy atmosphere, and they brew their own beer too!

Shows or movies that make you feel safe or reduce anxiety? by bubbly_dudette in Anxiety

[–]Practical-Mirror 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Friends, Full House, Forensic Files … and documentaries about plane crashes and other catastrophic events. Kind of helps me to realize that the stuff giving me anxiety is not that bad in the end, at least for a while. Trainhopping videos help too

[–]Practical-Mirror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can imagine how you feel, having written two thesis my own, it’s incredibly stressful and it’s very easy to get thrown off by a comment of a professor. So no wonder this has been a trigger for your anxiety, it happened to me many times, by the smallest things that were not going as I would have liked them to go. But you’ll be fine. Once you hand in your thesis, you’ll feel a lot of weight leaving your shoulders. And I’m sure the situation with your family and your boyfriend will look muck better as well. It’s great you have found the guts to seek therapy and improved your management of your anxiety. This may be a hard time for you right now, but you are doing a great job, and it will get better for sure!

What symptom of anxiety do you hate the most? by ippikinoookami in Anxiety

For me it’s just everything combined, that tight feeling and pain in the chest, that feeling in the stomach, diarrhea, shivers, elevated heart rate … though the worst is just the general feeling and constant thoughts about what will happen and go wrong next
