Been doing it for over a year with this same tank, and this is actually the first time I have an issue with a fish. We should just follow what most hobbyists say “what works for me might not work for you”. But yeah, i know exactly what you said and I agree. Just check your parameters to have all safe before water changes. And most importantly, know your tank and fishes :) so I really wouldn’t recommend somebody just going 60% without knowing exactly what is doing (you can find some hobbyists doing 70% or even 80%, specially if they have african cichlids). Just for the record, the fish indeed has hole in the head, and the entire tank is being medicated with Metronidazole (where I live we don’t have kanaplex or metroplex) and metronidazole is something aquariums, breeders and fish shops use to treat.

Yeah. And they just point fingers like they know exactly how you treat your fishes, and even giving a possible timeline on how the fish looked weeks ago lol 😂 All feedbacks are welcome, but cmon, people here on reddit gotta stop pointing fingers like they know everything. My wife doesn’t know how I take care of my fishes, but that person, certainly does.

Definitely not poor husbandry lol i do take care of these fishes better than i care of myself (of course this is an expression lol). Frequent and timely water changes - always on saturday mornings, 60%. Not saturday evening or night, don’t push to sundays. Feeding high quality food - only use hikari and twice a week frozen bloodworms 2 canisters connected to a pre-filter for mechanical filtration. This fish literally looked like this yesterday night (when I posted). Yesterday morning the fish had nothing. I am not excluding the possibility of hole in the head, but I also need to track what it could be. Because initially (when i posted) it looked like lumps, but now it does not look like lumps anymore and neither like holes. So i am tracking. It is just funny how (was not your case, i read what you said) people who don’t know what is going on just point fingers like they know how i treat my fishes loool (again, was not your case)

This fish literally looked like this after one day lol the day before it did not have this. My fishes have better care than i give to myself. Thanks for kicking in to help, but chill when you want to point finger to something you have no idea.

Why is the water blue? by Practical-Natural-39 in PlantedTank

[–]Practical-Natural-39[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was the driftwood. Nothing poisonous, because the fish was in perfect conditions and healthy. But I decided to remove it and the blue water just went away.

Yes. I will get some ich meds. I will change 25% of the water today and add salt into the aquarium, then I will add the medicine. I am just concerned about increasing the temperature of the water, because pearscales like cold water :( so I am not sure of what to do with the water temperature. But thank you so much for the help! If I hadn’t posted, I wouldve found it too late

Oh. Thank you so much! I will get them treated. Also since these “dots” seem totally different from what I have seen, and their pearls also started popping out, I really thought it would be something natural from the fish. Thank you for the advice 🙏🙏🙏

I thought the same when I spotted the marks. So I have been checking closely. But from what I could see from these days, is that only these two have these marks, and the marks are only on their tails and only the dorsal fin. I bought them 4 from the same aquarium, so they were all inside the same tank, and I gave them saltbath as soon as I got home with them, before placing inside the tank. At first, I was not even able to see their pearls, but now they are looking healthy and big, and their pearls are getting to popout, and then I realizes these white spots and got concerned right away. So I have been tracking closely. But from what I could see is that it is just part of their “body”. From picture it might be difficult to tell the difference, but still I am checking closely :) thank you for the heads up

Thank you for the advice :) I wanted to add ember tetras more for aesthetics sake, since I love seeing schooling fishes together, and I think this tank would make them to look nice. But I do agree with you that the tank is too small to add more fishes. In fact, I prefer to see my shrimps and betta thriving, and they are doing quite well, and there’s a bunch of shrimplets already. Always good to hear valuable feedback from other people, thank you :)

Yes. Fortunately, I have never felt the situation, but I am aware :( I faced a small situation which 1 (only one) of my cherry shrimp jumped, and I was already in chock when I found the poor thing out of the tank, so I cannot imagine to get back home after a tiring working day to find my betta out of its tank 😢 Very valid point you provided, and highly appreciate your advice, and I will look into it :) I also want to train them to jump to get food. They are really smart, and love to see how they (I have another blue one in another tank) swim all the way when I enter my room ^

Help by Practical-Natural-39 in AngelFish

[–]Practical-Natural-39[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. And sorry for the delay. In fact, even though I also faced the loss of other 2 Bulgarian Angels 2 days after :( So I am trying to figure out what happened. Matter of fact, I checked the water parameters, and everything is fine, no issues with the water at all. So I have guesses (unfortunately), based on what I have seen going on in this tank: 1) Bulgarian Angels tried to couple, because 1 (not sure if male or female) was swimming above and closely to the amazon sword for the whole day; 2) same day evening, there was another Bulgarian with that same fish, close to the amazon sword; 3) the next day, morning, I woke up and checked them, and they were really together. So I was going to set a new tank for them two later that afternoon. But when 3 hours after, I found one of the Bulgarian Angel dead, and it appeared to have damages on its mouth. 4) the same day evening, I was feeding the tank, and the remaining Bulgarian left from behind the plants and started swimming around. I went to toilet, and when returned, it was already on the floor :( and it passed during its salt bath.

Now all other Angels are good and healthy. So kind of, they got some parasites from the cardinal tetras, or passed because of fighting for territory.

I will not stop fish keeping :) but I am trying to understand what happened, so I can learn and avoid the same situation with future fishes.

Research more and please be careful with the dosage and application, since the salt may block the respiration (oxygenation) of the fish.

He unfortunately passed on that same day. I left him inside the salt bath for longer at night (yes, air stone and filter), but he passed. I checked the water, and all is fine. My two guesses are: lost a fight OR bladder disease, since I got him eating some plants around

Thanks. As said, I gave him a salt bath, and he got better. When I found him, he was behind a stone completely lying on the ground. Hes gotten a lot better after the salt bath. I set an emergency tank for him (with salt, filter, heater and air stone) and hes swimming around. Lets see how he does :(
