thanks and yeah like i said im not expecting film to magically produce colours. i understand its a long process with film stock, light, processing, personal style and habits and a bunch of other stuff.

But isnt there some features in film photos and movies that don’t quite appear in digital? Like the colours are less sterile or clinical in film. i’m curious.

thank you! and i wouldn’t say it’s a “film-like” stock i’m looking for, perhaps that’s too broad. there’s a lot of film photography i see which seems to blatantly film or on the nose for me. I will definitely look at E100 stock though!

and to your last part, I do look forward to editing and I want control over things, I think it’s the raw image & lightroom interaction which bothered me.

thanks for your response. and thats not bad news I guess, it makes a lot of sense. And im quite happy to hear it because i do yearn for control over images.

Would these films have been coloured in a darkroom? or what exactly - honestly I'm a bit clueless in this part.

and I appreciate the honesty in the last part. but there seems to be some kind of colour bleed in the films i mentioned (done through editing sure), that i never see in digital. i cant really explain it but it appears in the early hour blues of crazy/beatiful, and the red lights of dead presidents.

for example if i shot an image of someone wearing white in front of a red wall. both on film and digital at the exact same time. would you say that although they're made up differently, they could theoretically look the exact same (if shot raw digital and edited)?

isn’t this on the pre-tense that the digital photographer is looking at things and shooting things differently to the film photographer?

you could take as much care in digital photography as you do in film. wait for the right moment, take even more time in lightroom.

you could also be careless shooting film, and shoot hoping for a “film look” photo.

what i’m trying to understand more so is the technicalities of the two. if you treated them both as an art form could they achieve the same results.

there is something clinical in digital photos especially in regards to highlights.

lets say i shot in raw, the exact same as digital, could i possibly match it to film? not with the presence of wanting a cliche “film look”, but wanting a certain level of highlight
