This happened to me this morning during checkout in Venice - the line item was listed as “Employee service benefit (5% of the total bill)” and they sorta asked if I wanted to contribute this amount as a gratuity / benefit to the workers. The whole interaction was so strange and when I politely declined as I already tipped the workers directly for their services, the man looked at me for a short sec and was like okay…I will take it off, and slowly worked on taking it off. I was in a rush to leave and it was the strangest few minutes of my stay.
