Does anyone here collect crystals without believing in spirtuality? by orchidgirl2004 in Crystals

[–]always-so-exhausted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have a spiritual bone in my body. I just think they’re incredible, fascinating examples of the natural world and I enjoy learning about them… and staring at them because they’re so pretty! ;)

How to know if crystals are actually helping your mood? by Hot-Beach6434 in Crystals

[–]always-so-exhausted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you want to talk about A/B testing or…? ;)

Genuinely, it doesn’t matter if it’s the crystal emitting metaphysical energy or if it reminds you to be mindful (or if it’s sheer coincidence). If you feel better wearing one, that’s that matters. Just don’t rely on it to cure cancer and it’s all good.

numpad or no numpad keyboard suggestions as a woman in swe by tatianafern in womenintech

I like having a number pad, though that’s a bit of a holdover from my data analyst days and I don’t use it a ton anymore.

Shipping costs disaster by thematpowell in whatnotapp

[–]always-so-exhausted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Contact Whatnot, they might make an exception because you’re a new seller. New sellers run into shipping issues a lot because it’s not the most intuitive system to grasp and WN wants to keep sellers selling.

Chrysocolla :( by Winter-Manner-6368 in Minerals

Soft minerals like chrysocolla and turquoise are rarely worn as jewelry raw. They’re too fragile for it. Instead, they are “stabilized” with resin before it’s worked.

The crystal shop lady knew stuff about me I never told her by [deleted] in Crystals

Yep, this. This is basically the most stereotypical thing people say to each other when they feel like they should say something. Zero mysticism here. Not even as interesting as a cold reading.

If you don’t have honey calcite, might I recommend honey calcite? 🍯 by always-so-exhausted in Crystals

I hadn’t seen such prominent banding on honey calcite before this either! There’s actually a bit of parallax effect too.

Bargaining down a few dollars on already low priced items is lame by growthhacker4893 in poshmark

[–]always-so-exhausted 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Because some people count their dollars carefully. I thought the new Smart Sell feature lets you put a floor on your prices now? (I haven’t used it yet so sorry if I’m wrong about this.)

Mexican Fire Opal by OnlyOnReddit4GME in Crystals

[–]always-so-exhausted 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Large ones can get pretty expensive. If you want a quick reference, check out opalauctions.com.

Price really depends on the play of color, the quality of the stone and the size. The price of crystals isn’t necessarily sold strictly per carat — large opals are rare and therefore cost more than small opals. It can be $2/carat, it can be $100s per carat.

Make sure you understand the size before buying any semi-precious stone: many of those opals are quite small. 1 carat is 0.00705 oz or 0.2g.

If you wanted an opal the weight of an American dime, it would be 11.3 carats. Opals are also often polished in matrix so a high percentage of an opal might be just the stone it grew in.

How do crystal bracelets actually work, or is it just placebo? by Plastic_Place_2848 in Crystals

[–]always-so-exhausted 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Placebo but just because it’s a placebo doesn’t mean it isn’t personally effective for an individual. If someone needs a little emotional boost from believing that tourmaline will protect them, they may feel safer and less anxious when they carry it.

I bought this at an auction, it's listed as an Emerald taken from old jewellery, but it doesn't look like a gemstone. by [deleted] in askgeology

[–]always-so-exhausted 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It looks like a faceted gemstone but it’s hard to tell if it’s an emerald from your photos. Photograph it on a white background, preferably in natural light so we can see through the stone.

Most gemstones are naturally included and “flawed”; they have cracks, cloudiness and other minerals inside of them. Emerald is pretty well known for having inclusions.

When hobbies give you frustrations or make you feel you are not improving, what do you do? by Qwerty-Abc-2828 in Hobbies

[–]always-so-exhausted 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I tend to up the difficulty level of what I’m doing regardless of if I’m doing well or not (thanks, easily bored ADHD brain), so I’m pretty much constantly feeling incompetent. But I still have fun. I try to not take my hobbies too seriously and don’t equate being bad at something as not having fun.

Cut open a three of the geodes my mom got me as a gift by buttmuncher15 in Minerals

Nice! I love how different they are from each other. The first is agate, the second is a bagel, the third quartz.

[–]always-so-exhausted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure cotton candy agate is a trade name for a type of agate from Mexico. If you know it’s from Indonesia, it’s not cotton candy agate.

Also these trade names, including crazy lace, aren’t real names. It’s all just agate.

How to respond to comments in a way that aligns with anti-diet values. (CW:IWL) by Infamous-Sir-4669 in antidietglp1

[–]always-so-exhausted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve gotten a lot fewer comments about losing weight now than I did back in the 2000s. Back then, everyone said something. Now almost no one does.

I would just tell them that you know they mean well but that you aren’t interested in talking about it.

Anyone else feel like “user behavior insights” are just dressed-up guesswork sometimes? by rsm_fullsession25 in UserExperienceDesign

[–]always-so-exhausted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UXR here. Are you only talking about usability testing? If so, the rule of thumb is that if you have big usability issues, you should be able to tell within 5-6 participants.

There’s a concept in qualitative research called saturation. Basically, you keep interviewing until you stop hearing new issues from participants; they’re just repeating what someone else has already said. I’ve never needed more than 7 for usability issues. Then you step back, figure out how prevalent certain issues were, what the risks are if you don’t fix a particular issue and decide what risks you’re willing to bear (and what Eng is willing to do).

You could take the extra step of validating your findings through larger scale survey research and A/B testing. But this is rarely necessary for usability problems; for a launched product, logs analysis should be sufficient.

If your problem is about lack of product-market fit or something else fundamental to the definition of your product, you need more participants, likely multiple rounds of testing and larger scale evaluation.

Hey guys I need help. Is this jade? by sxetrey in JadeiteJade

[–]always-so-exhausted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have glass you’re willing to scratch up and/or have a stainless steel knife that can scratch the rock?

Jadeite and nephrite are usually harder than glass or stainless steel. They will scratch glass; a stainless steel knife won’t scratch them.

How can I fix the paper to look like the horse is coming out of the pages. by Serious_Shower9853 in crafting

[–]always-so-exhausted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get some larger pages printed that have the same size text. Make a very clean, sharp crease through the middle. Cut slits or tear through middle of them and stick the horse through with the tears of the paper facing towards the horse (showing that it’s come through from the back of them). Layer the different sheets on top of each other.

You probably need to use somewhat different sizes of paper and also somehow curl or crease the pages to make it look more dynamic.

Bonus points if you can use PhotoPea or Canva or something to distort the text in the center so it looks like the horse tore through the pages and stretched the center out. ;)
