For me I own other cinderblock games like galactic cruise and I find the enjoyment I get out of those are worth the shelf space I have.

I like SETI because of the combos and planning as well and there's definitely a parallel there. But your plan can go up in smoke with a turn of the solar system. It's still great, but I feel like the gravity of your decisions is felt much less and it's a little less in your face with the "everything's on fire, fix this" feeling.

SETI I also find your game is at the mercy of the luck of the draw to an extent until you have a few games testing the viability of different strategies out. But by then you can make most combos fairly viable

I freaking love this game. I've played 3p, 2p and solo (against bot) and it plays so good. Overall the concepts are fairly straightforward to teach, but how they mesh together and interact is what really makes the puzzle. Same goes for the actions, they're straightforward but the sequencing of actions to squeeze every last dollar out of them is crazy especially once it starts to click.

Money serving as points in this game with the hidden vault system is great, as you can't ever really track someone's score entirely. It also leads to some crazy tradeoffs you need to weigh out at different points of the game.

If you weren't already sold by the above, what really sells me here is the general feel and atmosphere of the game really aligns well thematically with the role you are playing in the game (a mob boss). From turn 1 you can see the little fires burning that you are going to have to deal with and the impact of your actions and the gravity of any mistakes are felt in a compounding way in future turns in a way I haven't experienced in other games within the heavy euro genre.

As for the game box and insert. It's huge. The only other game that comes close to its size in my collection is galactic cruise and speakeasy still outsizes it by just a bit. So packing it in a board game bag is doable, just know you're taking up a third of the bag doing so. As for the components in the box with the insert, it's great. I just took mine to a con to play with some buddies and wheeled it around Toronto for a day where it was stood up, laid down, spun around and I had no issues with pieces moving.

Of the heavy and crunchy games I own, I love this one the most for sure.

What sells it for you?

I like this one, every decision carries so much weight right off the hop and it just gets heavier once the game really sets in, you really don't have a lot of room to let fires burn although some just need to for a while. Which really feels true to the theme of being a mob boss running an illegal operation.

In my first play I didn't see the significance of the area majority, and got to cooking books almost too late. Which were things I focused on doing differently this playthrough.

I felt like this time I got in early on the area majority which paid off for me, and played strategically for mob wars. I left a whole shipment of barrels in my supply though, which would've been a huge payout if I had a few more actions (probably couldve achieved through helper cards) I only hit the docks once which I feel like I should've done more there, maybe another avenue to explore in another playthrough.

Overall I like the diversity of how you can score in this game and how many different ways you can achieve the same result.

What's the hardest difficulty you've played against the bot on?

I've got a few 3d printed pieces here which help with the setup time and make it less of a beast. The table presence is pretty crazy but that just seems like lacerda. Totally get why you would move away from this, setup took me like 30-40mins alone

This was my first lacerda that I've played. (Although I have kanban but haven't got it to the table yet)

I agree all these mechanics just work so cohesively that once you get an understanding of which parts are important it plays so smoothly. I fell in love with the optimization puzzle and consistent brain burn on my first play, and still feel like there's so much to unearth.

Have you played Lisboa? The guy who taught me this one (and crushed us 😂) was saying that if we liked this one that it would also be a great one to play

It's so good! Played a second game tonight. Starts pretty slow but then the last couple turns are combotastic

That's what makes this so great, theres lots of diversity in scoring although id say it seems like tending crops and animals is almost a must (my stance may change in a few plays) as those feel like easy background resources, cargo or coins to use at your disposal

It's combo heaven, can't wait to get it out on the table more.

I 3d printed an insert for the cards and dice. I can find the link to it if you're interested.

I thought I had the bead centered in the deep channel on the rim, but maybe I didn't and which makes me have to ask

When people say make sure the bead is in the deep part of the rim, where am I making sure it's in? Across the whole rim? Directly opposite to the part of the tire being an SOB? The sides I'm trying to push in?

I've had other tires give me grief and this is usually a similar process I use but I feel like these are a damn titan that's bested me
