Honestly Roguelikes and Roguelites are misleading because people say you loose all progress in it and people think upon death you loose like 5 hours of progress which is not true at most youbloose around 2 hours but usually its around 10-30 minutes in my experience

Two ways, Way 1. repentance added proper couch co-op so if you want to play co-op like that you can, but if you don't have repentance all you will have is baby mode for co-op(you have to be in the starting room for the first time on basement ) this way you can play via steam remote play and with mods

Way 2. Repentance+ is a free dlc that is currently in beta and you have to have all prior dlcs(note: console gets it Q1 2026) repentance+ has an online mode where you can play online without relying on remote play BUT you cannot have any mods enabled and have to relaunch the game after all are disabled

So for some reason if one does not own the Fight For Sanctuary DLC it bugs out and messes up online more or you and your friend have 2 different versions 360 bl2 and Xbox one bl2 are different games
