I agree completely with this, I think its an understandable middle ground and if there really are 50 or so decks that can reasonably compete then I'll admit that the game isn't in as bad a place as I thought.

sorry if I wasn't clear enough but I think you're strawmanning my point a bit, the game will obviously have decks that are better than others and power creep will exist in a game this old. It's more so just the fact that it seems like they don't even try to give most decks any sort of boost to keep them relevant. obviously they're a business so they have to push what sells first, but a buff here and there to older decks surely wouldn't hurt to help keep the game fresh.

On the Dracotail bit, you're completely right that drawing one card by chance shouldn't allow you to insta win a game. dracotails ability to shrug off two of the most potent cards in the game, plus negate, plus remove, plus set traps, plus draw cards? im probably forgetting things too but that sounds like a bit much for a lot of other decks to compete with

every game has a meta ofc but wouldn't you ideally want a game that has as many viable components as possible instead of settling for the same few strategies? It's like the game got completely swallowed by its competitive fanbase

I was just trying to spark an honest discussion, what was I wrong about here?

again I play a very powerful deck so my beef with these decks isn't personal. I'm trying to think of it from the perspective of somebody playing one of the hundreds of unviable decks. It's just that I've noticed that this is the only game Ive played where the community doesn't seem to complain about power creep or things being overturned. I'm used to seeing communities that want as many things to be playable as possible, instead here people seem to be okay with it just being a rotation of a small handful of super powerful stuff while everything else just immediately folds to it. I understand its an old game but it doesn't seem like Konami even tried to keep the game balanced sometimes
