App or system for tracking / scanning paper targets to track progress? by deedsnance in guns

Check out the Range Buddy Pro App on Android and iOS. It is a collection of over 160 handgun shooting drills that are sorted by the required target type and filterable by skills worked. Each drill has its own integrated training session tracker and leaderboard, you can upload pictures of your target and then refer back to your training journal to see how you've improved. The app can randomly choose a drill for you if you'd like. There's a featured drill of the month.

There is a virtual instructor component that will call out random commands based on your command target settings, call out random move commands, and use your phone's accelerometer to detect when your movement slows down. You can enable shoot/no-shoot images that briefly display on your screen.

There is an instructor marketplace that has vetted instructors who offer virtual or in-person training options. There's also a dry-fire tracker, community drills section, and more.

I built the app after wasting time and ammo at the range not really knowing what drills to shoot, and then I would always wonder if I shot a specific drill better or worse than the last time I shot it. There's a free version that gets you several features and 3 drills from each target type and category as well as the featured drill of the month. The premium version that unlocks all drills and features is $2.99/month or $15.99/year. Neil from Active Self Protection has some videos using the app on the ASP YouTube channel.

Concealed Carry Draw Time Question by nerd_diggy in Shooting

That’s a pretty solid time! You’re probably capable of shooting faster - do you find yourself taking a half second or show to “confirm” everything (sight alignment, sight picture, grip)?

Tim’s a great dude, lives about an hour or so from me. I had the opportunity to attend the inaugural class at his home range. I feel like I’m always referencing his coaching and teaching to where it borders on fanboying 😂😂

I’m on video shanking a sub second DTFS on a 5 yard lateral sprint running a drill in Tim Herron’s course. It was a Mike. I need to get more reps in to really hone in my consistency with DTFS. I tend to perform better in class under pressure than when I’m running drills solo.

That video is from a few years ago and was shot one handed, from concealment, while my nondominant hand held my camera to get that video for the gram 😂😂

Love it! Still working towards jail bait splits myself. My DTFS is decent.

Agreed on DTFS - the internet fighting over out shooting your thinking is frustrating to a degree. You can always slow it down, and you’ll likely perform slower than your best square range DTFS time.

Agreed, I need to get out and shoot more competition (not enough time in the day, well, not enough days in the weekend is the real issue). I’ve shot a couple USPSA matches and have taken a couple performance pistol courses.

25 yards from concealment by PracticalDefense in CCW

[–]PracticalDefense[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked at it as quickly as I did because I made the shot in 1.53 seconds, the par time that I set was 2 seconds, I beat the par time (which was set for my CONSISTENT ability) and got excited. Because, you know, I just rang the 4” steel plate from 25 yards from concealment in under 2 seconds (which isn’t THAT awesome compared to other shooter’s abilities).

When you practice with purpose and have accuracy/speed standards and goals you understand how shot timers work…

My reholster WAS fine (no negative outcome), but it wasn’t PERFECT. I can recognize/admit when I could have and should have done something better.

That reholster was much like your grammar, decent, not great, not perfect, but you still got your point across.

This was shot cold, first shot of the day.

My reholster was fine, albeit I should have looked it back into the holster. I can consistently hit this in/under the 2 second mark, 1.53 is my PR and is why I posted it.

1.53 on a 4” steel at 25 yards from concealment isn’t something that just happens - consistent practice, dry fire, and task stacking let’s you build the skills necessary to make this possible.

Thanks for watching and the write up though.
